Job Description

The Assistant Director of Research & Scholarship provides strategic and operational leadership for sponsored projects, research programs, and scholarly activity within the College of Nursing. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship, this position supports faculty, staff, and students in advancing research, scholarship, and creative inquiry by managing pre- and post-award processes, ensuring regulatory and institutional compliance, and promoting a culture of academic excellence.

This role serves as a key resource for research administration and scholarly engagement, coordinating initiatives that align with institutional priorities and external funding opportunities. The Assistant Director leads the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs and initiatives within the Office of Research and Scholarship, ensuring effective project management, continuous improvement, and high-quality service to the College's research community.

Strategic Research and Scholarship Support

  • Provide expert guidance and hands-on support for faculty and research teams throughout the proposal development lifecycle, including concept development, sponsor alignment, budget preparation, internal approvals, and timely submission.
  • Oversee and coordinate the College of Nursing's pre-award and post-award research administration in collaboration with central offices, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Support faculty and students in identifying and pursuing external and internal funding opportunities by monitoring sponsor announcements, facilitating funding searches, and advising on competitive proposal strategies.
  • Serve as a strategic resource for faculty scholarship by supporting the development of research, scholarly, and creative activities aligned with individual goals and college priorities.
  • Develop, implement, and support plans for the dissemination of research and scholarly outputs, including peer-reviewed publications, professional presentations, conferences, and other scholarly engagements.
  • Provide guidance on research documentation, reporting requirements, and sponsor communications to support award management, progress reporting, and closeout activities.
  • Collaborate with academic leadership to assess research capacity, identify opportunities for growth, and support initiatives that enhance the college's research and scholarship portfolio.
  • Support initiatives that promote scholarly collaboration, interdisciplinary engagement, and dissemination of best practices in nursing scholarship.
  • Track and analyze research and scholarship metrics to inform planning, reporting, and continuous improvement efforts within the college.

Program Management

  • Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of research-related programs and initiatives within the Office of Research and Scholarship.
  • Coordinate internal funding mechanisms such as pilot grants, travel awards, and seed funding.
  • Track program outcomes and prepare reports for leadership and stakeholders.
  • Promote interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation across research programs.
  • Manage conferences, events and other activities related to the Office of Research and Scholarship.

Project Management

  • Manage timelines, deliverables, and resources for strategic initiatives related to research and scholarship within the College.
  • Maintain project documentation, including work plans, progress reports, and evaluation metrics.
  • Facilitate collaboration among faculty, staff, and external partners to ensure successful execution of research and scholarship initiatives.
  • Identify and mitigate risks, ensuring alignment with the College's strategic goals and priorities.

Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor direct reports, fostering a high-performing and collaborative team environment
  • Provide clear guidance, set performance expectations, and evaluate staff contributions to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Identify professional development opportunities to enhance staff competencies and improve operational effectiveness.

Expected Salary

$100,000-$115,000

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience.

Preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in research administration or academic scholarship support.
  • Strong knowledge of sponsored project lifecycle, compliance regulations, and budgeting practices.
  • Master's degree or CRA (Certified Research Administrator) certification.
  • Experience in a higher education or health sciences environment.
  • Experience with IRB protocols, academic publishing, and research dissemination.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and software.
  • Familiarity with academic scholarship metrics and faculty development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on collaboration and customer service.
