Cheltenham School District announces the following CASSA position(s):

 

Position: Vice Principal - Cheltenham High School

Classification: CASSA - Act 93 Administrator

Schedule: 12 Month, 260 day annually

Reports to: Principal

 

Position Overview:  

The Vice-Principal assists the building principal in organizing and fostering a positive, safe environment that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students, staff and parents.  This includes the responsibilities of leading, directing, counseling and supervising a variety of personnel and programs; creating effective parent, teacher and student communications; supporting, encouraging, mentoring, and evaluating staff; fostering teamwork between teachers and among staff and parents; and managing budget items.  

 

Academic and Professional Qualifications

  • PA Certification as a Secondary Principal or Principal k-12.
  • Five or more years of successful teaching experience.
  • Experience in administration and supervision preferred.
  • Record of high academic performance; minimum Masters Degree.
  • Prior administrator experience preferred

  • Strong record of helping students achieve and sustain academic success, especially with minority and low-income students.
  • Keen ability to use data in the decision making process and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good time management skills and detail-oriented personality.
  • Working knowledge of current instructional techniques and pedagogical trends.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively handle discipline situations while fostering a positive learning community environment.           
  • Skilled in providing leadership to and assessing teachers based on a standard of excellence and accountability.
  • All abilities must be at a professional management level, as expected from the required educational level of the job (i.e. Master's Degree, PA Certification) and the previous experience required.
  • Highly proficient in data interpretation, and computer software usage; knowledge of district’s systems for pupil services.

 

Essential Duties Include:

  • Assists the principal in the discharge of his/her duties at all times and acts in the capacity of the principal during the principal’s absence from the school. 
  • Assists with scheduling; implementation of goals and selection of instructional materials; analyze test data; determines ways to improve instruction and student goals.
  • Assists in implementing instructional strategies, including supporting the needs of diverse learners, delivery methods, assessment and staff development techniques for improvement of instruction, including effective classroom management.
  • Collaborates with the school principal in the development, implementation and evaluation of instructional best practices; provides teachers with targeted, content-specific feedback and resources; provides instructional capacity to support whole school transformation efforts.
  • Systematically and continually monitors instructional process to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes.
  • Observes classroom management, instructional practice, professional development pursuits, interpersonal and leadership skills, while identifying high and low-effectiveness performers, providing clear and actionable feedback, resources and support.
  • Assists the principal in leading the improvement of student achievement by implementing the approved teacher observation model and evaluation tools with high levels of fidelity.
  • Collaborates with the principal to provide ongoing professional development for staff, based on an analysis of feeder school/assigned building data, observation data, best practices and instructional research.
  • Models and promotes the continuous use of data to inform practice and drive decision-making and instruction.
  • Works with the principal, teachers and staff in the development and implementation of the core components of the school’s curriculum; makes curriculum guides available to teachers.
  • Communicates effectively with district consultants in the coordination of the instructional process.
  • Meets with department chairs, coordinators, teacher leaders, individuals and groups in support of their goals and in order to facilitate communication and evaluate instruction within the department.
  • Facilitates communication between personnel, students and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems and/or resolving conflicts.
  • Assists in the orientation of new staff members to the teaching environment at the school, especially as it relates to the area of students, personnel policy and procedures and general building practices.
  • Assumes responsibility for implementing discipline procedures as stated in Student Handbook and/or district policies. Develops innovative strategies, preventative approaches, and proactive plans for students who exhibit at-risk behaviors.
  • Promotes good school-parent relationships when discussing specific student problems with parents. Assists in organizing parent conferences, back-to-school nights and other times when staff is available to parents to discuss their child’s learning and behavior.  Encourages and promotes parental and community involvement in the educational process.
  • Engages in professional development activities to improve leadership effectiveness, to acquire new skills, and expand knowledge of practices that accelerate student learning.
  • Enforces contractual provision and administrative regulations regarding employee conduct and performance as assigned by the building principal.
  • Supports student management by being visible throughout the school day and at extra-curricular activities. 
  • Coordinates the tutorial program.
  • Works in conjunction with the principal in supervising all school activities, i.e. field trips, orientation programs, assemblies, plays, musicals and other special events.
  • Organizes and directs cafeteria supervision during lunch periods.
  • Handles all other duties as assigned by principal or other appropriate administrator.
