Role & Responsibilities:
The responsibilities and duties described here are representative of those anticipated for the Barre Lead Instructor. This is not a comprehensive list and other duties may be assigned.
The primary goal of this position is to enhance the Barre experience for members: this includes refining class concepts, staff development, building class attendance, improving member engagement, ensuring fun and effective programming, and more.
Responsibilities include:
General:

Identify new opportunities for CPf Barre program such as:
-
Innovative class ideas plus a deep understanding of program’s competition
-
Proposals on potential equipment and studio upgrades
-
Communicate with each site’s Hospitality, Fitness Concierge and Operations teams to carry out any necessary on-site tasks, including substitutions, technical issues, studio maintenance, and equipment needs
-
Maintain a strong presence in all clubs including during peak hours such as evenings and weekends, at various member events, and on social media

Serve as a brand ambassador for Chelsea Piers Fitness

Seek excellence and progress in all tasks
Program Management:
-
Sharpen & develop Barre core program using technology and equipment currently in use
-
Develop new class styles, technology applications, and marketing initiatives to ensure that Barre at Chelsea Piers Fitness is recognized as a leader in the Barre industry

Help create an engaging and diverse schedule that speaks to a broad member base

Collaborate with Marketing to promote classes, special events, promotions, themed rides, and more
Team Leadership:

Minimum one year experience leading a team of 5 people
Barre Team Leadership:
-
Work with Group Fitness Director to develop class & instructor guidelines and standards
-
Train, mentor, evaluate, and manage Barre instructor staff, including:
-
Ensure all instructors implement an effective, engaging, on-brand Barre experience
-
Ensure all instructors adhere to expectations in Chelsea Piers Fitness & Group Fitness handbooks
-
Assist with schedule management, substitutions, payroll, and evaluations
-
Assist with social media outreach / marketing to help all instructors gain a following
-
Help recruit and develop talent
-
Expanding program / instructor knowledge base – training, workshops, etc.

Auditing and coaching instructors on teaching styles and building music playlists
-
Maintain hiring and evaluation procedures

Class, Training and Onboarding Content
-
Develop clear class structures
-
Develop onboarding systems, including audio and video content that supports recruitment, hiring and training

Staff training:

Quarterly Staff Meetings:
-
1-2 staff meetings per quarter; dates & hours pre-approved by Group Fitness Director
-
Conduct regular team meetings to review best practices and implement new formats
-
New Club Trainings
-
Prepare new and existing instructors to teach in new locations
Instruction:
-
Serve as Lead instructor teaching at least two classes per week at at least 3 New York City locations. Recommended teaching at least 8 classes per week (evenly split across teaching locations)

Develop a strong following across Chelsea Piers Fitness clubs through member engagement inside and outside of the studios

Serve as lead substitute for Barre classes when necessary
Qualifications:
Qualifications:

Candidates must have at least 3 years of Barre experience
-
Experience at either national boutique studios or large fitness clubs preferred
-
At least one year of Team management / leadership experience
-
High-energy, personable and passion for fitness with a team-first mentality.

Self-motivated/entrepreneurial spirit with an outgoing, diligent and affable disposition.

Superior customer service skills; excellent and clear communication skills, both verbal and written; strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Organizational skills, including management of multiple projects and technologies; and a familiarity or willingness to learn Microsoft Outlook, Teams and Exerp

Compensation:
Structured as follows:
-
Weekly stipend, 10 hours a week of administrative duties, including staff training/ management, product development, hiring and more ($30/hour)

Teaching rate, between 4-12 classes across multiple clubs ($75-92/hour)
