Job Focus: The Disabilities Assistant supports the Health Coordinator and Education Staff by facilitating the provision of services to children and families enrolled in CDCSA programs. This position may help assist children with disabilities in a 1-on-1 setting. This position is full-time, 40 hours a week.
Responsibilities:
- Ensures the health and Safety of all children at all times.
- Completes activities as identified in the CDCSA Work Plans.
- Provides Classroom support on a daily basis.
- Assist the classroom team with the implementation of daily routines, which includes room and material preparation.
- Provides support to children with medical needs, disabilities and behaviors.
- Interact with children to support their individual learning.
- Assists in the screening of enrolled children.
- Assists in monitoring, tracking, and documenting children's progress.
- Computer use includes tracking and word processing.
- Provides feedback to parents when appropriate.
- Maintain strict child, family, and staff confidentiality.
- Model appropriate behavior/attitude when working with students, parents and staff.
- Maintain a professional attitude towards management, staff, parents, children and the education profession.
- Attend pre-service, staff meetings, in-house trainings, and participate in professional development plans.
- Any other program-related activity as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications for Disabilities Assistant I:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Initial Certificate in Early Childhood Education.
- Ability to read, write, and speak both English and Spanish, preferred but not required.
- Ability to communicate positively with children and families with varying cultural, education, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Experience with children birth through age 5 is preferred.
- Experience working with children with disabilities and or medical needs is preferred.
- Computer skills and working knowledge of relevant software.
- A current Washington Photo Identification and reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to complete and pass a TB test and pre-employment physical.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Fulfillment of all specified Health and Safety requirements.
- Freedom from conviction of child abuse and neglect.
- Preference is given to former or current Head Start/Early Head Start/ECEAP parents.
Qualifications for Disabilities Assistant II:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Initial Certificate in Early Childhood Education.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certificate.
- Ability to read, write, and speak both English and Spanish, preferred but not required
- Ability to communicate positively with children and families with varying cultural, education, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Experience with children birth through age 5 is preferred.
- Experience working with children with disabilities and or medical needs is preferred.
- Computer skills and working knowledge of relevant software.
