This posting is for a Lead Kitchen Help at James Lintott Elementary. The position is 7.0 hours per day and the anticipated schedule is 7:00 am – 2:00 pm.

In-district applicants, who are current members of the PSE bargaining group, should apply by 3 p.m., April 14, 2026, and will receive first consideration. Rate of pay based on the PSE Salary Schedule and experience.

Position Summary:
The Lead Kitchen Helper serves students attractive and nutritious meals in an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness and warmth.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Essential Job Functions:

  • Is responsible for opening the kitchen facility and setting up for daily operations
  • Supervises and instructs kitchen personnel in the safe, proper, and efficient use of all kitchen equipment
  • Maintains the highest standards of safety and cleanliness in the kitchen
  • Checks food shipments into the school, signing invoices only after each order has been verified
  • Determines the quantities of each food to be prepared daily
  • Prepares food according to a planned menu and determines if the finished product is of best quality, both in flavor and appearance before it is served
  • Records all meals served, designated with or without milk
  • Decides proper use of leftovers and restocking needs for the following day
  • Reports immediately to the food service supervisors any problems or accidents occurring in the kitchen or on the cafeteria premises
  • Reports to the food service supervisors any faulty or inferior quality food which is received
  • Supervises the daily cleaning of all kitchen equipment, the washing and sterilizing of all dishes, silverware, and utensils
  • Maintains all food handling and storage in compliance with state health department guidelines
  • Oversees all production – helps where needed
  • Determines preparation needs by food group and/or prep station
  • Oversees service area set-up: serving lines, offering cups, condiments, utensils, paper, ala carte, milk, uniforms, garnish, line décor, etc.
  • During lunch, oversees ongoing production and supply of food to lines
  • Organizes student help, correct change, money’s ready, perishable foods set up on time, etc.
  • Supervises serving lines, helps where needed
  • Orders and receives goods: groceries, frozen, paper, cleaning, dairy, bakery, etc.
  • Maintains and counts/reports inventory
  • Reviews future production requirements with staff
  • Insures that work areas and storage areas are kept clean and orderly
  • Prepares meal reports
  • Is responsible for complete financial records of cafeteria
  • Insures adherence to safety and quality assurance standards by all kitchen staff
  • Performs essentials of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Consistently deals with people in a courteous and professional manner
  • Completes work at assigned workstations
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned pursuant to the contract

Job Requirements/Qualifications:
Education Required: High school graduate or equivalent
Experience Required: Food Service and Supervisor experience required.

Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:

  • Ability to supervise other kitchen staff
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to remain standing during entire shift
  • Ability to manually move, shelve, stack, or raise from floor to table or serving area heavy objects (pots, pans, trays, and food supplies) weighing up to 35 pounds
  • Demonstrated aptitude for successful performance of tasks listed
  • Such alternatives to the above as the Board or Designee may find appropriate and acceptable

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:

  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance, cost paid by applicant
  • Valid Food Handler’s card

Reports To: Food Service Supervisor/Director

Compensation and Benefits:

Employee Compensation and Benefits are outlined in the PSE Bargaining Agreement. See Article VII Hours of Work, Article VIII Holidays and Vacations, Article IX Leaves, Article XII Insurance and Retirement, Article XVI Transfer of Previous Experience, Article XVII Salaries and Employee Compensation, Schedule A.

Retirement benefits, if eligible, may include membership in SERS retirement plans in addition to voluntary Deferred Compensation Program and 403(b) Annuity enrollments.
