SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Quality Manager is responsible for ensuring that manufactured products at Check-Mate Manufacturing meet set standards of quality, reliability, and performance by personally engaging all levels of the organization. Sets and implements both internal and external quality requirements to ensure that company products and services meet customer expectations. Develops quality management system for Check-Mate Manufacturing utilizing current ISO standards. Manages quality engineers and quality inspectors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Includes but may not be limited to the following.

Process Planning

  • Create, modify, and update control plans to meet customer requirements, maintain processes, and drive process improvement.
  • Conducts assessments of company production processes to develop in-house quality policies, procedures, and specifications.
  • Collaborates with an organization’s purchasing, materials, warehouse, and production departments to ensure raw materials from external suppliers meet quality requirements.
  • Evaluates customer requirements to ensure their needs are met by set customer service standards.
  • Specifies quality requirements for raw materials obtained from vendors and suppliers.
  • Implements and monitors quality assurance standards to ensure consistent product quality.
  • Establishes procedures and processes for sampling, recording, and reporting of quality data.
  • Conducts and monitors the analysis/inspection of raw materials and final products to ensure compliance with set specifications.
  • Conducts tests to verify the quality of raw materials and finished products.

Material Review Board

  • Carries out research to identify ways to reduce waste and maximize resources.
  • Collects, compiles, and analyzes relevant quality statistical data to obtain information regarding quality performance.
  • Approves compliant products and rejects defective ones.
  • Collecting and compiling relevant quality statistical data is also part of the quality manager description.

Corrective and Prevention Action (CAPA)

  • Reviews existing processes and product specifications to identify the need for improvement or upgrade.
  • Addresses both internal and external quality issues to bring them to resolution.
  • Analyzes data for trends to prevent issues from occurring.

Audits

  • Conducts surveys to identify customer requirements and ensure they are being met by established quality standards.
  • Ensures manufacturing processes comply with local and global standards of production.
  • Conducts quality audits to make sure set quality policies and procedures are being adhered to.
  • Monitors product development processes to identify deviations from quality policies
  • Assists external quality auditors in coordinating on-site audits.

Calibration

  • Maintains proper records of quality tests, procedures, and standards.
  • Maintains records and documentation of quality tests and other quality-related activities.
  • Ability to calibrate attribute gaging.

Supervisory

  • Oversees the recruitment and training of quality assurance personnel to ensure an effective work unit.
  • Organizes training for quality assurance staff to enhance their skill and knowledge of product quality requirements.
  • Supervises quality engineers, technicians, inspectors, and other company staff to ensure they perform their duties in line with established quality procedures.
  • Offers recommendations to company management on ways to improve existing quality processes.
  • Collaborates with quality personnel to implement procedures, systems, and standards of operation.
  • Prepares and presents reports to update upper management on quality activities.
  • Prepares and presents to senior management reports of quality operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Quality Management System (QMS)

  • Maintains the Quality Management System to ensure compliance with QMS Standards
  • Supports External QMS audits.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, engineering, or in other related discipline.
  • 5 years’ experience with PFMEA, PPAP/FAI, SPC and control plans
  • Proficient in blueprint reading / GD&T / use of measuring equipment (Calipers, Micrometers, Height Gage, Drop Indicator, Attribute gages, CMM) and methodologies including GR&R)
  • 5 years’ experience in manufacturing and quality assurance
  • Experience with ISO 9001, 140001/ IATF 16949 use and implementation
  • 1-3 years’ experience with Plex ERP, SAP, MRP or other manufacturing-wide resource systems
  • 5 years’ experience with SME Root Cause and Failure Analysis (CAPA), ASQ Design of Experiments, Lean and Total Quality Systems
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles (Six Sigma)
  • Experience in stampings, machining, welding preferred
  • Experience working with quality/safety standards ITAR, RoHS and OSHA
  • Certified Quality Inspector/Auditor preferred
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Suite (Excel, Access)
  • Extensive management experience
  • Excellent communicator both verbally and written
  • Highly detail-oriented

Language Skills - Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, personnel policies, graphs and other production documents. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from senior leaders, departmental managers and directors.

Supervisory Responsibility - Position has supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Other responsibilities include assisting in hiring and dismissal of personnel; creating and executing employee performance reviews; training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Work Environment - This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The employee is occasionally exposed to conditions such as dirt, grease and oil and will work on the manufacturing floor and quality lab. Employee will work in a manufacturing environment.

Physical Demands - The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job in an office setting and on the manufacturing floor. Employee may be exposed to loud noise while on the manufacturing floor. Hearing Protection is required. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift or move items over 20 pounds on a daily basis.
