Chaumont is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Shift Leader / Lead Barista to join our team at our Santa Monica location. This is a leadership role for someone who is passionate about specialty coffee, thrives in a fast-paced café environment, and is ready to take ownership of daily operations alongside our management team.

- Prior barista experience is required
- Must be available to work both Saturdays and Sundays
- This position is based exclusively at our Santa Monica location
Position Overview: As a Shift Leader, you will lead the team on the floor, craft high-quality coffee and tea beverages, deliver outstanding customer service, and ensure the café runs smoothly throughout your shift. You'll be a key point of contact for both your team and our customers.
Pay & Schedule:
- $22.00/hour tips (averaging $9–$11/hour)
- Full-time: 5 days per week, 8-hour shifts (up to 40 hours/week)
- Weekend availability required (Saturday AND Sunday)
- Morning shifts starting at 7:00 AM
Shift Leader Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise the team during your shift, setting the tone for service and quality
- Open and/or close the café, including cash handling, deposits, and end-of-shift reporting
- Train, coach, and support baristas to maintain Chaumont's standards
- Resolve customer concerns professionally and escalate when appropriate
- Oversee station setup, breaks, and task delegation throughout the shift
- Monitor inventory, communicate stock needs, and assist with ordering
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation standards
- Partner with management on daily operations and performance feedback
Barista Responsibilities:
- Greet customers warmly and deliver excellent service
- Take orders, prepare and serve food and drinks, and handle payments accurately
- Prepare specialty coffee and tea beverages using professional equipment
- Maintain cleanliness and restocking of front-of-house stations
- Suggest menu items and speak knowledgeably about our offerings
Requirements:
- Previous barista experience required (lead/shift experience preferred)
- Strong leadership, customer service, and communication skills
- Proficiency with espresso machines, grinders, and brewers
- Ability to manage a team in a fast-paced environment
- Reliability, punctuality, and strong attention to detail
- Comfort with cash handling and POS systems
