Cold Weather Shelter Attendant
Position Summary
HIRING FOR PRN POSITIONS ONLY
The Cold Weather Shelter attendant provides support and supervision to guests of a temporary shelter facility during periods of severe cold weather. The attendant ensures a safe, welcoming environment and assists with shelter operations during assigned shifts, overnight, on a weather-dependent schedule. The Shelter Attendant will work collaboratively with other departments at the CHATT Foundation to help ensure the successful operations of the Cold Weather Shelter (CWS). The Shelter Attendant reports to the Cold Weather Shelter Supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Greet incoming guests, assist with intake procedures, and explain shelter rules.
- Supervise and monitor shelter areas to ensure safety and compliance with shelter policies and Operations plan.
- Conduct regular safety checks, respond to crises or emergencies, and contact authorities or security as needed.
- Maintain accurate documentation, logs, and incident reports for each shift.
- Perform cleaning duties and ensure sanitary conditions throughout the facility.
- Distribute supplies including blankets and mats to shelter guests during cold weather events.
- Collaborate with other staff, security and volunteers to maintain a supportive environment.
- Follow all established policies, procedures, and confidentiality standards.
- Carry out all other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Prior experience working in human services, social work, or with at-risk populations preferred.
- CPR/First Aid certification is desirable or must be obtained upon hire.
- Ability to work overnight shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Must pass background checks and drug screen as required.
- Excellent communication, crisis management, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to treat all participants, staff, and volunteers with respect.
- Ability to lift to 50 pounds and perform light housekeeping independently.
- Successful completion of post offer background check and drug screen
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods.
- Able to lift and move supplies up to 50 pounds.
- Capable of responding to emergencies and assisting individuals in crisis.
Schedule
Shifts are 12 hours, overnight during cold weather events. This is a temporary seasonal position. We are hiring for PRN positions ONLY currently

Pay: $14.00 per hour
