Fire Alarm & Security Systems Technician (1099 / Project-Based)
Chatman Security & Fire | Houston, TX Area
We are a licensed commercial fire alarm, sprinkler, and security technican with consistent project volume. We're looking for experienced, reliable contractors to join our team on a project basis. If you take pride in your work, show up on time, and know your way around a fire alarm panel or security system, we want to hear from you.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Install, configure, and commission fire alarm systems, access control, CCTV cameras, intrusion detection, and low voltage security equipment
- Read and interpret technical drawings, wiring schematics, and electrical blueprints
- Perform routine maintenance, system testing, and troubleshooting on installed systems
- Diagnose issues related to wiring, cabling, devices, and remote access software
- Conduct site surveys and assess security or life safety needs for each project
- Respond to service calls and resolve technical issues efficiently and professionally
- Maintain accurate documentation of installations, repairs, and system configurations
- Represent Chatman Security & Fire professionally on every job site
What We're Looking For:
- Proven hands-on experience with fire alarm systems, security cameras, access control, or intrusion detection
- Texas Fire Alarm License or Low Voltage License required (or ability to obtain)
- Strong low voltage wiring skills and ability to read technical schematics
- Familiarity with NEC requirements and current industry standards
- Construction background or experience working in commercial buildings a plus
- Networking knowledge relevant to IP cameras and access control systems is a bonus
- Own reliable vehicle required
- Own hand tools required — power tools and specialty equipment provided
What You Can Expect:
- Consistent project-based work in the Houston metro area
- Projects include new installs, retrofits, deficiency repairs, and tenant improvements
- 1099 contractor position. In 3-4 months we will be moving to hourly techs and vehicles. (you can choose then how you wish to move forward)
- You will be skills-tested before placement — we run professional jobs and need people who can back up their resume
