Chatham High School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a morning part-time Teacher of English as a Second Language (ESL). Responsibilities
- Develop and implement engaging ESL lesson plans that align with the curriculum and meet the needs of students at varying proficiency levels.
- Assess students' language skills and progress through regular evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages participation and collaboration among students.
- Adapt instructional methods and materials to accommodate different learning styles and cultural backgrounds.
- Collaborate with other educators and staff to support students’ overall academic progress and integration into the school community.
- Organize and participate in extracurricular activities that promote language learning and cultural exchange.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress and any concerns.
- Stay updated on best practices in ESL instruction and participate in professional development opportunities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Linguistics, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- Valid ESL NJ teaching certification or equivalent qualification.
- Proven experience teaching ESL to diverse student populations, preferably in a high school setting.
- Strong understanding of language acquisition theories and instructional strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and families.
- Patience, empathy, and a passion for teaching and supporting English language learners.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, as needed.
- Proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
Salary Range: $25,000 - $30,000 (commensurate with years of experience and degree level)
Includes participation in the New Jersey State Pension System
This is not a benefits eligible position.
