The primary purpose of the IT Security Analyst position is to serve as the first point of contact for cybersecurity events and promptly triage potential incidents to assess their nature and scope. This position works closely with Security Team members to coordinate effective response and remediation efforts. This position creates and updates technical documentation and plays a key role in developing training materials to foster a strong security culture throughout the organization. This position reports to the IT Infrastructure Manager.
Essential Functions
- Monitors and triages security events daily, performs assessments and investigations, and works with appropriate team members, business teams, and technology teams to develop solutions that address critical security concerns;
- Develops and maintains technical documentation for security platforms, including system security plans, policies, procedures, and standards;
- Promotes a culture of security throughout Chatham County by working closely with the Information Technology team members and relevant operational teams to gather data and insights to enhance the organization's security awareness program;
- Conducts information security awareness briefings, training, and simulations to influence positive security behaviors across the organization;
- Supports governance, risk, and compliance activities, including conducting technical assessments, application assessments, contract reviews, and audits;
- Researches and recommends security enhancements to network and server systems, and assists in evaluation/selection of network and/or server equipment and/or software;
- Participates in departmental on-call rotation to provide after-hours support for critical incidents as needed;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Science, or a closely related field; Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Science, or a closely related field and two (2) years of experience as an IT Analyst or in Cybersecurity or Information Security; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience utilizing enterprise security platforms, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention, web filtering, vulnerability management, endpoint protection, email protection, and encryption, is preferred. Experience designing and implementing technical educational materials, as well as conducting technical training with diverse audiences, is preferred.

- Ability to apply strong attention to detail;
- Skilled in problem-solving and analyzing information and data in complex tasks;
- Ability to effectively and clearly communicate and convey complex information technology security concepts and terminology with both technical and non-technical staff;
- Ability to manage time, prioritize, and manage multiple responsibilities while ensuring accuracy and efficiency;
- Knowledge and understanding of information security architecture, technologies, best practices, and controls;
- Demonstrated ability to document complex designs and implementation strategies;
- Familiarity with common Information Security frameworks, standards, and compliance and regulations such as ISO 27001/27002, NIST, PCI DSS, HITRUST, HIPAA, HITECH;
- Ability to identify, analyze, respond to, and resolve security issues promptly;
- Ability to maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in security technology, trends, and issues;
- Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service with the ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and provide equitable treatment to all;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County officials, department heads, peers, associates, and the general public.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the regular exertion of 10 pounds, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds and the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking, hearing, use of hands and fingers, handling or feeling, frequently requires walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing, pulling, lifting or using repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, climbing or balancing; work has standard vision requirements and requires color perception; work requires vocal communication to express or exchange ideas; work requires hearing to perceive information at normal levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, inspecting small parts or defects, using measuring devices and operating motor vehicles; work occasionally requires working in high, precarious places, including exposure to outdoor weather conditions or to the risk of electrical shock; work is generally performed in a moderately noisy location (ex. business office, light traffic).
Special Requirements
Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.
This position is on-site; a hybrid schedule with some remote flexibility may be approved after successful completion of the probationary period.

Salary : $71,163 - $80,000
