Under the general supervision of a Corporal or other departmental supervisor,
- Perform law enforcement, criminal and civil services, and public safety work to protect life and property under the supervision of a Corporal or other departmental supervisor.
- Maintain custody of the Detention Center inmates and ensure their safety and security.
- Book, process, search, and seize the personal property of arrestees and new inmates.
- Issue inmate uniforms, transport, escort and secure inmates, and maintain shift logs and order in the housing areas.
- Respond to assistance calls from other officers and be able to defend yourself.
- May be assigned to specialized divisions within the Sheriff's Office, such as Court Services, Transportation, or Court Orders Service.
- Supervise the inmates while in the housing unit and have direct contact with the inmates under your supervision.
- Be able to lift up to 50 pounds, push loaded carts, and climb stairs.
- Work 12-hour shifts that rotate every three months, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED from an accredited school.
- P.O.S.T. Certified Peace Officer for Law Enforcement and in good standing.
- Possess or be able to obtain the Georgia P.O.S.T. Certification for Basic Jail Officer and First Aid CPR Certification.
- Possess a valid driver's license from the state where you reside with the ability to obtain a Georgia driver's license.
- Your vision must be correctable to 20/20 or 20/40 in each eye.
- Must complete and pass physical and psychological exams with a medical professional and pass a drug screen and background investigation.
Please note that an investigation will be conducted based on your provided information. You must complete the application form honestly, accurately, and to the best of your knowledge. If it is discovered during the background investigation or after that that you have deliberately omitted, misrepresented, or falsified any information, you will be immediately disqualified from further consideration. You must disclose all convictions, including a plea of guilty or nolo contendere, and a finding or a verdict of guilt in any criminal proceedings, even if the sentence or the judgment of guilt has been withheld or not entered thereon. This requirement applies to first offenders, as per Georgia State Law 25-8-7.1.

- Out-of-State Law Enforcement Certificate
