What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kennel Attendant position at Chatham Animal Clinic?
Key Responsibilities
- Feed, water, and monitor animals according to established schedules and dietary requirements
- Clean and disinfect kennels, cages, litter boxes, and surrounding areas
- Exercise and socialize animals to promote their physical and emotional well-being
- Observe animals for signs of illness, injury, or behavioral changes and report concerns to veterinary or supervisory staff
- Administer basic medications or treatments as directed by veterinary staff
- Wash and groom animals as needed (bathing, brushing, nail trims if trained)
- Maintain accurate records of animal care, feeding, and medication
- Assist with intake, release, or transport of animals as needed
- Provide friendly, professional communication with clients, adopters, or visitors
- Follow all safety and infection control protocols
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous experience with animal care is a plus, but not required (on-the-job training provided)
- Ability to safely handle animals of various sizes and temperaments
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and time management skills
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment (lifting, bending, standing for long periods)
- Compassionate attitude toward animals and people
Work Environment
- Indoor/outdoor kennel environment
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, animal dander, noise, and occasional bites/scratches
- Requires weekend, holiday, and possible evening shifts
