Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically strong Compliance Engineer to support regulatory compliance, product certification, and safety validation activities for commercial ice-making machines and refrigeration equipment. The ideal candidate will have experience working with international compliance standards including UL, CE, NSF, CSA, DOE, and environmental regulations applicable to refrigeration and foodservice equipment.
The Compliance Engineer will work closely with design engineering, quality, manufacturing, testing laboratories, and certification agencies to ensure products meet all applicable regulatory and safety requirements across North American and global markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead product compliance and certification activities for commercial ice machines and refrigeration systems.
- Ensure compliance with UL, CE, NSF, CSA, DOE, IEC, and other applicable industry standards.
- Coordinate testing and certification activities with external labs and regulatory bodies.
- Review product designs for electrical, mechanical, thermal, and refrigeration safety compliance.
- Support risk assessments, hazard analysis, DFMEA, and product safety evaluations.
- Maintain compliance documentation, technical files, declarations, and certification records.
- Work closely with R&D and product engineering teams during new product development.
- Monitor regulatory updates and advise engineering teams on changing compliance requirements.
- Support environmental and refrigerant compliance initiatives, including low-GWP refrigerants.
- Participate in internal and external audits related to product compliance and quality systems.
- Assist in resolving compliance-related field issues and customer concerns.
- Provide guidance during product modifications, engineering changes, and global product releases.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.
- 3–8 years of experience in product compliance, certification, or regulatory engineering.
- Strong knowledge of UL, CE, CSA, NSF, IEC, and commercial refrigeration standards.
- Experience working with testing laboratories and certification agencies.
- Familiarity with refrigeration systems, HVAC/R equipment, or commercial foodservice products.
- Understanding of electrical safety, EMC, thermal safety, and product risk assessment.
- Experience with technical documentation and regulatory file preparation.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional coordination abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with commercial ice machines or refrigeration equipment.
- Knowledge of natural refrigerants including R290 systems.
- Familiarity with North American (NA), Canadian (CL/CSA), and European regulatory requirements.
- Experience with DOE energy compliance and sustainability standards.
- Working knowledge of ISO quality systems and audit processes.
- Certification background with Intertek, UL Solutions, CSA Group, or TÜV.
