Experienced Dog Trainer

Chasing Tails Pet Farm
Bon Aqua, TN Full Time
POSTED ON 10/14/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 2/10/2027

Chasing Tails Pet Farm is seeking an experienced dog trainer to lead board-and-train programs, help owners achieve lasting results, and provide dependable care for the dogs entrusted to us.

This position includes a private on-site residence with paid utilities, uncapped commission opportunities, and separately paid weekend driving hours. Living on-site is a requirement of this role. Approved personal dogs are welcome.

We’re looking for someone who can confidently manage training from intake through owner handoff, communicate clearly with clients, and work independently while maintaining high standards of safety and animal care.

Compensation & Housing

  • First 90 days: Guaranteed pay of $2,500 per month.
  • After 90 days: 30% commission on training services, with no cap on commission earnings.
  • Weekend transportation: Weekend driving hours are paid separately at $20 per hour.
  • Required on-site residency: The person hired must live on-site. A private residence with utilities paid is provided.
  • Personal dogs: Permitted with written approval.

Responsibilities

Dog Training & Client Support

  • Independently manage assigned board-and-train dogs, typically 1–2 at a time, with occasional assignments of up to 4 when space, compatibility, and staffing allow.
  • Develop and carry out training plans suited to each dog’s needs and program goals.
  • Conduct two structured 5–15 minute training sessions per dog each day, with additional time for preparation, care, documentation, and client support.
  • Monitor progress, recognize stress or behavioral concerns, and adjust training appropriately.
  • Provide enrolled clients with progress updates and realistic expectations.
  • Conduct owner handoff lessons so families can confidently continue training at home.

Daily Care & Safety

  • Provide feeding, exercise, cleaning, and other daily care during assigned duty periods.
  • Maintain accurate records of training, behavior, feeding, medications, and client communication.
  • Promptly report health concerns, injuries, incidents, or emergencies.
  • Maintain clean, secure living and training spaces, including safe separation of personal dogs and training dogs.

Weekend Transportation

  • Safely transport dogs on scheduled routes.
  • Follow secure loading, unloading, handling, and transportation procedures.
  • Communicate professionally with clients during pickups and drop-offs.

Our receptionist handles initial inquiries and enrollment, allowing you to focus on training and supporting enrolled clients. Chasing Tails supplies program equipment, and clients provide their dogs’ food.

Schedule

Scheduled weekend driving — 10.5 hours per week:

  • Saturday morning: 6:30–10:00 AM
  • Saturday afternoon/evening: 4:30–8:00 PM
  • Sunday morning: 6:30–10:00 AM

Training, daily care, client updates, and owner lessons require additional work time beyond these driving hours.

The full schedule, days off, and relief coverage will be established before the start date. The owner or designated qualified staff will cover scheduled off-duty periods, days off, and absences.

Qualifications

  • Professional dog training experience, with 2 years preferred.
  • Demonstrated success with board-and-train programs and the ability to explain your methods and results.
  • Safe, humane handling practices and sound judgment when working with dogs of different temperaments.
  • Ability to recognize stress, reactivity, aggression, and situations requiring additional support.
  • Comfort working within our training approach and discussing the appropriate use and limitations of training tools, including prong collars and electronic collars.
  • Strong client communication and owner-coaching skills.
  • Dependability, organization, and the ability to manage daily responsibilities independently.
  • A valid driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and availability for the listed weekend routes.
  • Ability to meet the mandatory on-site residency requirement and follow housing and animal-care agreements.
