Position Overview
Caterpillar is seeking a motivated Controls Engineer I to support the AES Engineering team within the Automated Switchgear division. This role is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining control systems and HMI applications used in generator control switchgear. The position offers hands-on experience supporting both engineering development and field-related HMI activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and executing electrical design schedules from concept through system implementation while maintaining overall project timelines.
- Perform testing, evaluation, modification, and calibration of products, instruments, and control systems.
- Analyze plant processes and recommend or implement system improvements.
- Troubleshoot hardware and process-related issues to ensure system reliability.
- Perform technical calculations related to electrical design, robotic safety standards, and motor control systems.
- Ensure all safety objectives, compliance requirements, and legal standards are met in all engineering work.
HMI-Focused Responsibilities:
- Design, modify, develop, and implement software programming for generator control switchgear HMI applications.
- Configure, program, and test HMI hardware.
- Collaborate with Power System Engineers to validate and correct HMI programming.
- Provide remote support to address field HMI issues and assist with installation activities.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s OR Master’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing) or Computer Science preferred.
- Candidates with a 2-year technical degree and 4 years of relevant experience will be considered.
- Relevant internships may be accepted.
Experience:
- 0–2 years of engineering experience required.
- Controls engineering or HMI engineering experience preferred.
