Middle School CTE Computer Science Teacher
Reports To: Principal

NATURE OF WORK
Under general supervision, the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Computer Science Teacher plans, organizes, and delivers instruction aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and CTE Computer Science/IT curriculum. The teacher creates a learning environment that promotes student engagement, technology skills, problem-solving, and career readiness in computer science fields.
This position supports the overall mission of Rutherford County Schools to prepare students for college and career success.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Plans and delivers instruction aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and CTE Computer Science curriculum.

Develops lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments that promote student learning and engagement.

Provides instruction in areas such as coding, computer applications, digital literacy, and computational thinking.

Integrates technology and project-based learning into classroom instruction.

Establishes and maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate student behavior.

Evaluates student progress and provides timely feedback to students and parents/guardians.

Maintains accurate student records, including grades, attendance, and documentation.

Uses a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs.

Collaborates with school staff, counselors, and CTE personnel to support student achievement and program goals.

Participates in faculty meetings, professional development, and school activities.

Follows all district policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.

Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of middle school instructional practices and student development.

Knowledge of computer science concepts, coding, and digital tools.

Ability to integrate technology effectively into instruction.

Ability to manage a classroom and maintain appropriate discipline.

Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.

Ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction accordingly.

Ability to work collaboratively as part of a professional learning community.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Valid North Carolina teaching license in CTE Computer Science/IT Education, or eligibility for licensure through the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Demonstrated knowledge or experience in computer science, information technology, or related field preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must meet all licensure requirements established by NCDPI for CTE Computer Science teachers.

Must complete required district and state training.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to stand, walk, and move throughout the classroom.

Must be able to use standard classroom and technology equipment.
