We are looking to add to our veterinary technician and assistant team! The ideal candidate will have clinical experience in a veterinary medical setting and be comfortable and ready to work in administering a variety of routes of medication, all forms of venipuncture, familiarity with radiography and patient positioning, (ideally) familiar with anesthesia prep, monitoring, and recovery, understands basic veterinary anatomy and restraint, but most importantly is good with communication, taking instruction, receiving feedback and constructive criticism when needed, and strives to learn and maintain a positive attitude.
Skills training will be provided and individual growth is encouraged.
Chase Animal Hospital is a small animal veterinary hospital located in the eastern side of Huntsville, AL. We are a soon-to-be 6 doctor practice offering routine and critical medical care, boarding, grooming, and doggie daycare. Our bustling hospital performs routine & emergency surgery, endoscopy, dental prophys, xrays, ultrasound, has a large in-house pharmacy, in-house diagnostics, numerous referral options for specialty needs, and has 3 nearby emergency hospitals for overnight & weekend referral care.
Technician Licensing a plus but not required.
Applicant should possess a strong commitment to animal wellbeing, be dedicated to professional ethics and continued learning, have strong personal morals, and be able to work in a busy and fast paced environment.
Shifts for full time hours are 3 - 4 days a week from 7:00 am - 6:00pm M - F with an hour lunch break and include rotating on-call weekend shifts for care of hospitalized pets or boarding pets with medication needs.
Skill Requirements & Expectations
(Basic)
- Assist veterinarians & licensed technicians in providing primary, surgical, critical, and emergency medical care to animals
- Obtain and record accurate vital signs, weight, and patient history
- Perform routine procedures such as vaccinations and blood draws as directed by veterinarians
- Collect lab specimens as directed and prepare appropriate tests
- Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians
- Properly fill prescriptions
- Help maintain clean examination & medical facilities and medical equipment
- Provide compassionate care to clients and their pets, and handle animals with patience and empathy
(Skilled)
- Prepare animals for surgery and assist during surgical procedures
- Able to triage incoming patients and critical cases
- Obtain x-rays using proper safety, collimation and developing techniques as well as knowledge in transmitting cases for referral to specialists
- Knows & follows proper safety protocols regarding anesthesia administration and maintenance
- Skilled in dental prophy with knowledge of proper tool use and maintenance
- Experience taking dental x-rays
- Able to calculate drug dosages
- Effective communicator with team and clients with proficiency in medical record management
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience working in a veterinary clinic or animal hospital with technician-related duties/ skills is REQUIRED
- Ability to work well in a team environment, including open communication, receiving feedback, be willing to learn, and follow instructions
- Knowledge of animal behavior, anatomy, and common diseases
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Must be dependable and punctual
- Able to stand for long periods of time
- Able to lift up to 50# unassisted
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $19.00 per hour
