Job Description: The Central Care Manager oversees all aspects of decedent care and transportation for Chas. Verheyden, Inc., supporting five facilities across the metro Detroit market. Reporting to the Director of Operations, this leadership position manages the Central Care Center staff, ensures compliance with all procedures and regulations, and upholds the firm’s mission: “The Same Always to All.” This role combines strategic oversight, training, and compassionate execution of care for every decedent entrusted to the firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and train staff in identification, transportation, and decedent care protocols.
- Monitor embalming, restorative art, and cremation preparation processes.
- Ensure regulatory compliance, proper documentation, and high standards of care.
- Coordinate vehicle scheduling, container inventory, and PPE usage.
- Implement and review safety standards, personal effects tracking, and workflow procedures.
- Conduct daily inspections of care quality and identify areas for process improvement.
- Lead communication and scheduling across all funeral home locations.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years in funeral service with specialization in embalming and restorative arts.
- Valid Michigan Funeral Director/Embalmer license and driver’s license.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated expertise in embalming with a “No Closed Casket” mentality.
- Ability to oversee compliance and deliver consistent care quality.
