Special Education Paraprofessional (Part-time)

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

In conjunction with the classroom teacher, the paraprofessional is responsible for supporting instruction and managing the learning environment. The position reports to the Director of Special Education and the Principal.

ESSENTIAL TASKS:

• Maintain the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.
• Work with students in groups and individually during lessons, assisting with lesson plans and materials, grading homework, and writing progress reports.
• Interact in a professional manner with students and parents.
• Co-teach lesson components as determined by the teacher, leading small-group or individual instruction and discussion, and reviewing classwork material.
• Provide instructional reinforcement under the direction of the classroom teacher in executing lesson plans.
• Assume the responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in the classroom, during lunch, activity periods, and out-of-class settings.
• Participate in planning sessions with the learning team, communicating with parents and school officials as needed.
• Adhere to the established policies and regulations of the School Board.
• Adhere to the established policies and regulations of the School Board.
• Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, parents, and staff to enhance the instructional environment; participate in parent-teacher and faculty meetings and events.
• Perform other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge or familiarity with the subject(s) to be taught; knowledge of the principles and methodologies of effective teaching, is a plus, but not required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling.(Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential tasks.)

REQUIREMENTS:

• College Credit past 60 hours (preferred)
• High school diploma or GED required
• Proven experience working with students
• Effective communication skills; oral, written, and visual with adults and children
• Understanding of basic principles of childhood development
• Familiarity with educational software or willingness to learn
• Current First Aid and CPR certification
• Be eligible to work in the United States.
