Position Summary
The Route Sales Representative / Merchandiser services and grows an assigned book of retail accounts by maintaining product presence, securing orders, and building strong in-store relationships. The role combines merchandising, order management, and account servicing to maximize sales and ensure proper product presentation.
Essential Functions
The following are the core duties of this position. This list is representative and not exhaustive.
- Service assigned accounts on a regular schedule, taking and submitting orders to meet account and company sales goals.
- Merchandise product on shelves and displays, including stocking, facing, rotating, and building or maintaining displays per planograms.
- Ensure accurate pricing, signage, and shelf placement, and remove out-of-date or damaged product.
- Identify opportunities for new items, additional placements, and promotional support, and present them to store decision-makers.
- Monitor competitor activity, pricing, and shelf conditions and report findings.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with store managers and department personnel.
- Coordinate with the delivery drivers and selling event specialists serving the same accounts on product needs, store-level issues, and account communication.
- Maintain accurate records of orders, credits, and account activity.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education a plus.
- Prior route sales, merchandising, DSD, or retail experience preferred.
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Connecticut driver's license with a clean motor vehicle record.
- Food handler / food-safety awareness training (or willingness to obtain).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong selling, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage a route and territory independently.
- Organizational skills and basic proficiency with order and reporting tools.
Physical Demands & Work Environment

- Frequently lift, carry, and stock product up to 50 pounds.
- Extended standing, walking, bending, reaching, and kneeling while merchandising.
- Regular travel between accounts by vehicle.
- Exposure to refrigerated areas, sales floors, and back-room/stockroom conditions.
Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
