What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shipping Dock Lead position at Charter Furniture?
Overview
Coordinate the day-to-day operation of the Shipping Department. Inspects loading operations to make sure all shipments are loaded correctly. Review daily, weekly and month-end receiving and shipping requirements to prioritize workload. Monitor in-bound and out-bound freight movement to ensure on-time shipment of customer orders. Responsible for all shipments and ensuring correct Bill of Ladings, packing slips are filled out correctly, and providing this information to the corresponding departments.
Duties
- 1. Coordinates, oversees, and trains subordinate Warehouse personnel.
- 2. Unloads and examines incoming shipments; compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items to verify them against receivers, packing slips, invoices or other related documents. Marks incoming raw materials with identifying information. Records shortages and communicates to Supervisor, Purchasing or Quality Control departments for corrective actions.
- 3. Conveys unloaded materials to storage or distribution area via powered forklift, overhead crane, pallet jack, or hand truck.
- 4. Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, racks, and shelves by hand.
- 5. Stacks or assembles materials into bundles and bands bundles together.
- 6. Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as size, type, style, color, or product code.
- 7. Assembles customer orders from stock and places orders on pallets or shelves, or conveys orders to packing station or shipping department.
- 8. When shipping goods to vendor or other Tropitone facilities, loads materials into vehicle or container and installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent damage in transit.
- 9. Maintains records of amounts of materials or items received or distributed.
- 10. Checks on hand quantities in computer.
- 11. Responsible for maintaining accurate inventory control on regular basis.
- 12. Reorganizes materials as required to more efficiently utilize Warehouse space.
- 13. Trains and certifies powered forklift operators.
- 14. Monitors safety and assures safe work practices are carried out by employees.
- 15. Recommends to Supervisor appropriate or required disciplinary action.
- 16. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in warehouse management or supervision within a distribution or logistics environment
- Strong knowledge of inventory and operations management systems such as EPICOR
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with shipping & receiving procedures, materials handling, and heavy lifting techniques
- Familiarity with forklift operation and mechanical knowledge related to warehouse equipment
- Ability to lead a team effectively while maintaining high safety standards in accordance with OSHA guidelines
- Experience with freight forwarders; express service and carriers
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in inventory control and process improvement initiatives
- Prior experience in warehouse lead roles or leadership positions preferred
- Strong communication skills for team coordination and cross-department collaboration
