Responsibilities
- Safely operate motor coaches and charter buses on various routes, including city streets, highways, and adverse weather conditions, following all traffic laws and transportation safety regulations.
- Conduct thorough vehicle inspections before and after trips to ensure mechanical integrity, including checking air brakes, lights, tires, fluid levels, and safety equipment.
- Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, providing passenger safety guidance and support for individuals with special needs or mobility challenges.
- Maintain clear communication with dispatch using two-way radios to coordinate routes, report issues, or receive updates during trips.
- Navigate efficiently using GPS or maps to ensure timely arrivals while managing traffic conditions and detours effectively.
- Adhere to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and state transportation laws governing commercial driving practices.
- Provide excellent customer service by creating a friendly environment, answering questions about routes or stops, and addressing passenger concerns professionally.
- Ensure compliance with all vehicle maintenance schedules and document vehicle inspections accurately in logs.
- Assist with loading/unloading luggage or equipment when necessary for delivery drivers or event transportation services.
Experience
- Proven experience driving motor coaches, school buses, limousines, or similar large vehicles in a commercial setting.
- Strong mechanical knowledge of bus systems, air brakes, and basic vehicle maintenance procedures.
- Familiarity with paratransit operations and transporting passengers with special needs is preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of traffic laws, safety regulations (including DOT standards), and defensive driving techniques.
- Excellent communication skills for effective driver-to-dispatch communication and passenger interaction.
- Experience navigating city streets confidently while managing traffic conditions in various weather scenarios.
- Prior background in driving passengers enhances your ability to handle diverse transportation tasks efficiently.
