Position Overview
Charlottesville City Schools seeks a dependable and creative Hourly Photographer to capture high-quality still images and short video clips during school events, ceremonies, classroom activities, and other division functions. The ideal candidate will contribute to preserving important moments and supporting district communications and community engagement. Anticipated time is 20 hours/month.

Key Responsibilities

• Photograph school events such as classroom projects, school-wide morning meetings, pep rallies, sports activities, and concerts.
• Capture candid and posed portraits of students, staff, and other stakeholders.
• Ensure image quality through proper exposure, composition, lighting, and framing.
• Edit and process photographs using standard software.
• Manage digital file organization, metadata entry, and storage for retrieval and archival purposes.
• Deliver finalized images in a timely manner, per guidelines from the Office of Community Relations.
• Daytime or evening hours.
• Assist with other tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Driver’s license and vehicle access.
• Proven experience in photography, especially in events or educational settings (portfolio required).
• Proficiency with digital camera equipment, lighting, and editing software.
• Strong visual and creative sensibility; attention to detail.
• Excellent time management skills, with flexibility to work mornings, evenings, or weekends as needed.
• Professional demeanor, with clear communication and ability to collaborate with diverse school staff and students.
• Must meet school division background check and clearance requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience photographing children or within school environments.
• Prior experience with communications or media roles.

Schedule

• As-needed and flexible, based on event schedules and school calendar. Assignments are typically issued and scheduled in advance; punctuality and reliability are essential.
