Charlotte Latin School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Middle School English Teacher to join our faculty beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year. This full-time, 10-month position offers the opportunity to ignite students' curiosity.
Our Middle School English curriculum includes reading comprehension and analytical abilities, composition skills, grammar, and vocabulary. The ideal candidate will bring a student-centered approach to the classroom, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and a lifelong love of reading and writing.
Responsibilities include:
- Teach four sections of Middle School English, two preparations
- Serve as a Middle School advisor to approximately 12 Middle School students
- Work collaboratively and effectively with peers in support of student achievement and curriculum development
- Within course teams, collaborate with colleagues toward consistency in grading practices
- Assess students’ performance and provide feedback in a timely and consistent manner
- Attend department, division, and grade-level meetings
- Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current within the field
- Commitment to academic excellence, interdisciplinary and experiential learning, and advancing the mission, core values, and strategic plan of the school
- Perform other related duties, such as club advisor, recess supervisor, carpool, class trip, etc., as required and assigned by the Head of Middle School

Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field is required; Master’s degree preferred
- Experience teaching English; Middle School experience preferred

- An understanding of and appreciation for the developmental stages of middle school students
- Personal traits appropriate for nurturing the growth of early adolescents - must be energetic, creative, flexible, patient, and have a sense of humor
- Ability to promote critical and creative thinking
- Fluency in multiple student-centered instructional approaches
- Demonstrate capacity and desire to teach across multiple disciplines/subject areas
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong initiative, classroom management, and organizational skills
- Proficient use of technology to support education
- Experience as an academic advisor
- Desire to contribute to student life outside the classroom

Working Conditions and Environment
