The Custodian Supervisor is a critical member of the Facilities team, reporting directly to the Director of Facilities Services. This position is responsible for the daily supervision of all Charlotte Latin custodians, ensuring the quantity and quality of their work.
This role ensures a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our school community. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, pays close attention to detail, and has experience managing a team. Key responsibilities of the job include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Managerial Responsibilities:
- Responsible for organizing, scheduling, and assigning daily work routines for custodial staff
- Manage and assign special work projects with the Facilities Director.
- Manage work orders (via the work order system) and assign tasks accordingly
- Provide on-the-job training for new and current employees, including safety-related training
- In conjunction with the Facilities Director, discuss all safety issues and ensure proper personal protective equipment is provided.
- In conjunction with the Facilities Director and Human Resources, review accidents and update training needs.
- Manage equipment and alert the Facilities Director of any necessary repairs or purchases
- Ensure adequate supply of products and chemicals, ordering more as needed
- Coordinate and provide assistance for building emergencies (such as fire/flood clean-up, snow/ice removal, etc.) during and after working hours
- In conjunction with the Facilities Director, plan and perform major cleaning operations
- Manage the custodial contractor that cleans academic buildings in the evenings
- Coordinate all summer cleaning projects with in-house staff and the flooring contractor
Cleaning and Maintenance
- Dust pictures, artwork, and other surfaces to maintain a polished appearance.
- Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, dust mopping, wet mopping, and vacuuming.
- Ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of all school areas, including bathrooms, hallways, classrooms, and communal spaces, to promote a healthy environment.
- Wipe and sanitize horizontal surfaces, walls, window sills, ledges, doors, and door frames.
- Empty wastebaskets, clean their interiors and exteriors, and transport trash and recyclables to disposal areas.
Specialized Cleaning
- Conduct machine cleaning, buffing, stripping, and refinishing of floors.
- Perform carpet extraction and bonnet cleaning to keep carpets fresh and hygienic.
- Complete detailed cleaning and scrubbing in assigned areas as needed.
Safety and Inspections
- Inspect work areas to identify and address potential safety concerns.
- Report any immediate repair needs or supply shortages to the Facilities Director promptly.
Event Support
- Assist the Special Events team with event setup and breakdown as needed.
General Duties
- Replenish cleaning and maintenance supplies to ensure readiness.
- Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Director or School Administration.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED and 5 years of managerial experience preferred.
- Experience in school cleaning or custodial work is required.
Skills
- Exceptional time management skills, including the ability to multitask and prioritize
- Ability to plan and coordinate complex schedules
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Basic working knowledge of Google Workspace
- Proficient in basic arithmetic operations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
- The ability to build a strong rapport with colleagues and resolve conflicts within the team
- Demonstrates reliability, accountability, and a strong work ethic.

Working Conditions and Environment
- Intermittently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.

- Intermittently stand, stoop, bend, twist, crouch, kneel, crawl, walk, climb stairs, step stools and ladders, operate foot and hand controls, squeeze, and reach above shoulders.
