JOB SUMMARY
Performs work organizing, coaching, and conducting recreational activities or sports at a recreation area or center in the County. May act as a lead worker over one or more assistants implementing recreational activities. Preliminary training and general instructions are received from a supervisor regarding the activity or event to be supervised.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is primarily performed both indoors and outdoors, potentially exposed to temperature changes dust, biting/stinging insects and outdoor weather conditions inclusive of heat, sun, rain, and wind.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Monitors one or more assigned recreation activities or sports at an assigned recreation area.
- Organizes, supervises, and stimulates interest among children and adults in various types of recreational events and activities: creates and implements programs throughout our County; creates program planners; acquires space; determines staffing needs; recruits volunteers; promotes and supervises programming and events.
- Performs customer service duties: receives and responds to questions, requests, complaints, and suggestions; provides information regarding recreation programs; registers participants for programs; sells memberships and parking passes; assists customers as needed.
- Participates in the collection of revenues and fees for facility rentals, parking pass/meters, tickets, admissions, programs, summer camp, swimming pool, etc.; receives and processes payments; makes change; and prepares daily cash reports and deposits receipts.
- Ensures the safety and security of the patrons: completes daily safety checklist; monitors and remains aware of activities; reports unauthorized persons and other security problems; checks on injuries and accidents; applies basic first aid; investigates and reports on serious accidents as required.
- Performs marketing and public relations duties: creates, prints, and distributes flyers, calendars, and informational materials for programs and events.
- Assists with data collection and reporting; tracks participant numbers for individual programs; collects and processes program surveys; prepares and submits reports; and processes and files documents as necessary.
- Sets up and tears down for activities and special events: gathers and sets up equipment and supplies; ensures equipment and supplies are available, in working condition and safe for use; and returns equipment and supplies to appropriate location.
- Considered essential personnel and supports emergency operations as assigned.
- Provides exceptional customer assistance, problem-solving, and/or complaint resolution by all forms of communication.
An equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Six (6) months of experience in customer service, physical education, recreation, summer camp programs, or volunteerism.
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Knowledge of departmental policies, plans, and procedures.
- Knowledge of modern office practices, plans, and procedures.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other job-related computer programs and software applications.
- Knowledge of rules, regulations, safety precautions, and first aid of various competitive athletic games.
- Knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of personal health and fitness.
- Knowledge of recreational activities suitable for children and adults.
- Knowledge of standard office computer equipment and software applications, as well as cash registers.
- Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.
- Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
- Skill in the use of office equipment such as a computer, multi-line telephone system, scanner, fax machine, and copier.
- Ability to score various sports.
- Ability to lead and instruct children and adults in the assigned recreational activities.
- Ability to maintain discipline and to solve disciplinary problems.
- Ability to contribute effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
