Are you a strategic leader with a passion for facilities management, capital projects, and building high-performing teams? Charlotte County is looking for a Facilities Manager to oversee the operation, maintenance, improvement, and long-term planning of County facilities that serve our community every day.

In this role, you'll lead the planning and execution of facility operations, renovations, maintenance programs, and capital improvement projects from concept through completion. You'll guide skilled teams, manage budgets and contracts, oversee procurement, ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and help shape the future of County facilities through strategic planning and continuous improvement.

Success in this position means balancing technical expertise with strong leadership. You'll collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, department leaders, and community stakeholders while ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and within budget. From overseeing building systems and infrastructure to evaluating maintenance needs, negotiating contracts, monitoring construction, and delivering exceptional customer service, your work will have a lasting impact on the facilities our employees and residents rely on every day.

Education and Experience:

An equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
    • Preferred:  
      • Building Construction
      • Project Management 
      • Engineering
  • Five (5) years of experience in facilities construction, management, or operations, to include lead or supervisory experience.
  • Depending on position assignment:
    • Positions assigned to work within the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office/Justice Center/Jail additional background checks will be required:
      • Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS)
      • FALCON Integrated Criminal History System

Special Qualifications:

  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.

What You'll Bring:

  • Knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, local government operations, and modern office practices.
  • Knowledge of commercial and government facilities management, including building systems, construction principles, maintenance, capital projects, applicable building codes, occupational hazards, and safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, office administration, construction industry practices, and the operation of equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other job-related software; ability to prepare and maintain accurate records, reports, proposals, and business correspondence.
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, team-building, and project management skills with the ability to direct, motivate, and evaluate staff.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, research, and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and improve operational performance.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking, customer service, and the ability to build productive relationships with employees, contractors, consultants, vendors, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, blueprints, plans, specifications, and technical documents while exercising sound judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to develop project requirements, estimate costs, manage budgets, analyze administrative issues, and make sound recommendations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, contracts, consultants, and vendors while ensuring quality, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Ability to use computers, office equipment, and related technology to support daily operations and project management.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and perform the duties of the position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, climbing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception.  Frequent lifting of 10 to 25 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed indoors and outdoors and requires some exposure to environmental changes (e.g., outdoor weather and/or field conditions, warehouses, covered loading docks, garages, etc.) or irate customers, extreme noise, odors, heights and/or dust.

RISK/SAFETY CONDITIONS

The position requires some exposure or risk to physical health and/or physical safety (e.g., exposure to environmentally hazardous material, assault and battery, heavy equipment, communicable disease, etc.).
