Summary:
The Summer Camp Swim Instructor is responsible for helping lead all coaching efforts of the Charlotte Country Club swim portion of summer camp by providing a fun and inclusive environment for our campers. Swimmers range from 4 to 12 years of age, and camp registration is typically 20-50 swimmers each week of camp. The position is seasonal, with some pre-season preparation work. Responsibilities include age-group coaching duties with emphasis on safety, proper skill development, team member development, seasonal planning, daily workouts, and more. The typical swim schedule is Monday-Thursday from 11:00am-2:00pm and is subject to change based on Club needs.
Essential Functions:
- Build meaningful relationships with fellow swim coaches, summer camp counselors, staff members, and campers.
- Enforce team rules and policies, as well as pool rules and regulations.
- Ensure the safety of swim team members, performing lifesaving and/or first aid procedures when necessary.
- Maintain routine records related to swimming accidents, incidents, and assigned activities.
- Conduct swim team workouts and provide instruction to swim team members; enhance the swimming skills and development of all team members; ensure team member adherence to and understanding of safe training, competitive and swimming practices.
- Give swimmers knowledge to understand and master strokes and provide corrective feedback that will enhance swimmers’ techniques.
- Maintain structure and discipline within a group setting, while encouraging and promoting student participation in a positive manner.
- Conduct self in a professional friendly, helpful, courteous, and diplomatic manner.
- Maintain swimming area in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
- Assist and support all camp swim-related activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education/Experience
- At least 4 years of competitive swimming experience at US Swimming, high school or college level.
- CPR/First Aid Certification required upon hire.
- Educational background in childcare, child development, or recreation management preferred.
- Experience with youth activities in a private club preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Continuous standing and walking, some swimming. Ability to work in a busy, noisy environment.
- Ability to read, write, speak English.
- Must be able to walk, reach, kneel, crouch, stoop, and crawl frequently.
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to climb stairs and lift up to 35 lbs. daily.
- Indoor and outdoor – ability to tolerate all seasonal weather conditions.
