Primary Function: The Chief Financial Officer is charged with successfully managing the school's finances in the current year while proactively planning for long-term sustainability. The Chief Financial Officer is an integral part of the business office and will be responsible for providing oversight of all finance, accounting, internal controls, audit, and reporting activities. This position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial information at Charlotte Christian School. - Evidence of a mature personal Christian faith consistent with the Charlotte Christian Statement of Faith.
- Evidence understanding of and a commitment to the mission of Charlotte Christian School.
- Evidence of strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in business administration is required; a master's degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years related experience in business accounting and/or experience in a school finance setting
- Experience working with external auditors, compliance and regulatory oversight
- Ability to think critically with minimal supervision, work collaboratively, respect confidentiality, multitask, and use data to make
- informed decisions in the best interest of the school.
- Strong working knowledge of accounting software (Blackbaud preferred), Microsoft Office and Google applications.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, proactive, and execution-oriented.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for working with the Head of School to develop the school's strategy for growth. Specifically responsible for building financial models (forecasting) tied to the development of strategy.
2. Serve as a member of the senior staff and work closely with the Head of School.
3. Plan and facilitate regular meetings of the Board of Trustees’ Finance Committee.
4. Lead, manage, guide, and evaluate all those who report directly to the CFO.
5. Oversee the internal control structure within the Business Office as it relates to the policies, procedures and documentation of all accounting and financial reporting activities
6. Build and maintain financial controls and systems.
7. Maintain proper banking relationships.
8. Monitor all subcontractor, vendor, and contractual relationships.
9. Safeguard all unused checks and credit cards.
10. Oversee the audit process, working closely with the school’s independent auditing firm, including preparation of audit
worksheets/schedules and files at the request of the auditors.
11. Create monthly financial statements.
12. In conjunction with members of the senior staff, prepare annual budgets for submission to the Board of Trustees.
13. Maintain and monitor all cash account activity.
14. Responsible for billing and collection of tuition and pledges.
15. Serve as an active member of the Tuition Assistance Committee.
