The incumbent serves as the Assistant Chief, Environmental Management Service at the Augusta VA Health Care System. The purpose of this position is to serve as the alter ego of the Chief, Environmental Management. the hospital housekeeping program, assuming shared responsibility and accountability for the planning, directing, and monitoring of all aspects of the hospital housekeeping program. The position reports to the Chief, Environmental Management.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-09. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Undergraduate Education: Major study - Chemistry or Biological sciences, Sanitary science or administration, institutional sanitation or administration, hospital administration, hotel administration, public administration, business administration, or other fields related to the position.

Graduate Education: Major study - public health or business administration with emphasis in hospital administration. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

- Experience in laundry and linen management.
- Experience in interior design management.
- Experience that demonstrated a knowledge of waste management, including the requirements relating to hazardous, toxic, and infectious wastes and provisions for their final disposition.
- Experience that demonstrated a knowledge of pest management, including alternative methods of control and the selection and application of chemicals.

Responsibilities:
- Reviews and critically analyzes handbooks, directives, policies, objectives, planning, assessing management systems
- Actively executes the planning, organizing, budgeting, staffing, and management of a diversified program designed to provide a clean and attractive environment appropriate to the medical, surgical, and mental health setting.
- Involved with long- and short-range planning, establishing policy, and budgeting for the Health Care System and network for the Environmental Management Program
- Plans, organizes, directs, manages, reviews, and evaluates an augmented program to include responsibility for Biohazard, Chemotherapy, Sharps Waste Management and Laundry/Linen/Employee Uniform operations
- Responsible for planning, directing, and maintaining a total program to provide a sanitary Environmental Sanitation Program for floors, walls, and ceilings; stripping of floors to include cleaning of other floor coverings and refinishing floors, cleaning all of the service areas that encompass the Augusta VA Health Care System, and cleaning patients' beds and patients' equipment.
- Responsible for the management and environmental response to the management and control of infectious diseases to include HIV, AIDS, Coronavirus, Influenza, COVID-19 and other highly contagious diseases found within a high complexity level 1B Health Care System
- Planning, directing, and maintaining a total program to provide a sanitary Environmental Sanitation Program for floors, walls, and ceilings; stripping of floors to include cleaning of other floor coverings and refinishing floors, cleaning all of the service areas that encompass the Augusta VA Health Care System, and cleaning patients' beds and patients' equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Leadership.
