Key Responsibilities
- Obeys all traffic laws.
- Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
- Maintains discipline among students on the bus.
- Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority through established procedures.
- Maintains the bus interior in a clean condition (sweeping daily and cleaning mirrors, lights, windshields, and rear windows).
- Reports damage to the Director of Transportation.
- Checks the bus before each operation for mechanical defects, proper fluid levels, and ensures the bus is fueled.
- Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
- Discharges students only at authorized stops.
- Transports only authorized students.
- Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
- Obeys and enforces all State and school district policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Other related duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation within the constraints of the Master Agreement.
Qualifications & Experience
- Required: A valid Michigan license to drive a school bus with all required endorsements.
- Additional health and experience requirements as the State and Board may require.
- Secure and maintain certification from the School Bus Driver Safety Program.
- Pass physical
- Pass a state police records check and have an established satisfactory five-year driving record.
