Charleston Pro Bono Legal Services provides critical civil legal assistance to Charleston’s low-income community. To support our continued growth and impact, we are hiring a Development Director to lead fundraising efforts and donor engagement.

Position Overview

The Development Director, in partnership with the Chief Executive Officer, is responsible for securing financial support through donor cultivation, grants, special events, direct appeals, and planned giving. This role ensures the sustainability and expansion of our programs by developing strategic fundraising initiatives and strengthening donor relationships.

Key Responsibilities

• Fundraising Strategy & Execution: Design, implement, and manage fundraising campaigns, appeals, and special events.
• Event Management: Oversee annual fundraising events, including securing sponsorships, obtaining necessary licenses, and managing budgets.
• Donor Engagement & Stewardship: Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, ensuring timely acknowledgments, recognition, and engagement.
• Grant Management: Research, identify, and apply for grant opportunities; manage reporting and compliance.
• Financial Oversight: Assist in developing the annual budget and long-term financial goals for the organization.

Qualifications

• Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) and a minimum of two years of nonprofit fundraising experience.
• Fundraising Success: Proven ability to meet financial goals through donor engagement, grants, and campaigns.
• Mission-Driven: Passion for advancing justice for low-income and vulnerable populations.
• Communication & Relationship Management: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to connect with diverse stakeholders.
• Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively under pressure.
• Flexibility & Commitment: Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends for major events, with some local travel required.
