Job Description
The First Grade Teacher at Charleston Collegiate School is responsible for designing and delivering a comprehensive, dynamic curriculum that aligns with the school's mission, values, and pillars. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative and skilled educator with expertise in academic planning, a passion for project-based learning (PBL), and a desire to fully utilize the school’s outdoor campus for enriched learning experiences.
Key Responsibilities- Create and implement a rigorous, developmentally appropriate curriculum focused on foundational literacy, numeracy, science, and social studies through PBL. Lessons should integrate cross-curricular elements, critical thinking, and hands-on activities.
- Scaffold instruction to meet individual student needs, using data to inform teaching practices and monitor progress in line with academic standards and outcomes.
- Infuse CCS’s values—empathy, integrity, community, optimism, and advocacy—into daily lessons and interactions to build character and citizenship.
- Incorporate the school’s outdoor campus to engage students in exploration, environmental studies, and experiential learning opportunities.
- Partner with colleagues to align teaching practices and share ideas for interdisciplinary learning.
- Communicate effectively with families about student progress, successes, and challenges.
- Establish an organized, safe, and inclusive classroom that promotes creativity, critical thinking, independence, communication, and problem-solving.
- Participate in professional development opportunities, implement best practices in elementary education, and contribute to the collaborative culture of CCS.
- Incorporate opportunities for students to engage with the local community, fostering connections that support learning and community integration.
Qualifications
- College Degree (minimum Bachelors)
- Good working knowledge of Google Suite
- Efficient typing, email, database, spreadsheet, and internet skills
- Ability to communicate effectively and get along with co-workers and management
- Ability to maintain regular and timely attendance
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, problem-solve, and manage multiple projects
- Ability to present a professional image as a representative of the School
- Current in advanced first-aid training or equivalent
