Summary
The Senior Manager of Global Trade Compliance is responsible for leading, developing, and executing the company's worldwide import and export compliance strategy. This leadership role ensures adherence to all applicable international trade regulations, minimizes customs duties and regulatory risks, and maintains robust internal controls across all business units and supply chain functions globally.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Drive the strategic vision for the Trade Compliance function, incorporating best practices into all operational processes and supply chain planning.
- Program Management: Oversee and manage comprehensive import and export compliance programs, ensuring effectiveness across classification, valuation, origin determination, licensing, and screening activities.
- Risk & Mitigation: Proactively identify regulatory risks (including customs penalties and export control violations) and develop sophisticated mitigation strategies, leveraging tools such as Free Trade Agreements, special customs procedures, and optimized duty programs.
- Team Development & Oversight: Manage, mentor, and develop a team of direct and indirect compliance professionals. Establish performance metrics (KPIs) and manage department resources and budget to achieve strategic goals.
- Policy & Governance: Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide trade compliance policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and internal control documentation.
- Audit & Reporting: Lead internal and external compliance audits, manage interactions with government agencies, and oversee the maintenance of mandatory trade records.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Act as the primary subject matter expert, providing guidance to senior leadership, legal, finance, sales, and supply chain teams on complex trade matters and their impact on business objectives.
- Technology & Systems: Evaluate and recommend technology solutions to enhance the efficiency, visibility, and automation of trade compliance data and processes.
Qualifications
- Experience: 8 years of increasing responsibility in managing global import and export trade compliance programs, preferably within a multinational company.
- Expert Knowledge: Expert-level understanding of core trade regulations (e.g., US Customs regulations, ITAR, EAR, HTS classification, valuation, and rules of origin).
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead and manage professional staff, projects, and cross-functional initiatives across diverse geographic regions.
- Communication: Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex regulatory topics to executive-level audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- U.S. Customs Broker License (CBL) or equivalent professional certification.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in International Trade, Law, Business, or a related field.
