Schwab Investing Themes empowers clients to invest in 45 market-driven themes, supporting over 100,000 clients and $1B in assets. The department is dedicated to building exceptional client and representative experiences, delivering the capabilities and services needed to support thematic investing.
As an Architect, you will play a pivotal role in optimizing and refactoring existing services, as well as developing new capabilities to drive the continued growth of the Schwab Investing Themes platform. This position challenges the status quo and enables Schwab to make a significant impact in the investment space.
Position Responsibilities:
- Architect distributed, scalable, and complex services on AWS and PCF platforms
- Develop Software Architecture Documents and collaborate with highly experienced development teams
- Lead the architecture for Thematic Core Platform Services—an enterprise solution for building and managing benchmark and customized themes
- Lead large projects across multiple teams within the organization
- Mentor and proactively delegate to develop engineers
- Design large components and systems, following and evolving architectural patterns
- Build reference implementations and valuable documentation
- Address scaling, performance, and availability concerns
- Serve as a thought leader on emerging technology
- Solve complex problems with ambiguous or incomplete data in highly distributed systems
- Ensure end-to-end visibility into platform availability and performance
- Recommend libraries, frameworks, and languages
What you have
Required Qualifications:
- 8 years highly technical experience with designing and hands on development Sprint Boot Restful services in Amazon Web Services (AWS), Experience with PCF is a plus
- Experience creating detailed architectural designs in AWS, experience working with Terraform is a plus
- Experience with architecture and design of large Relational databases in Amazon Web Services like Aurora MySQL and Messaging services like RabbitMQ
- Experience with Cloud Security products and following secure design principles
- Experienced in the development of policy and operational processes to insure high availability and service of entire technology stack, from front-end web traffic to back-end infrastructure
- Working proficiency with SCM and DevOps tool suites; examples include Git, Bitbucket, Bamboo.
- Experience designing for mission critical client facing and highly available, 24x7 systems, experience in trading domain is a preferred
- Working knowledge of Agile/Scrum, experience adopting or leading continuous integration and continuous delivery concepts and frameworks
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cyber Security, related degree OR related practical experience
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect is a plus

Salary : $179,000 - $209,000
