What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Dean position at Charles School at Ohio Dominican University?
The Charles School Mission: The mission of TCS is to provide a diverse population of Ohio’s high school students access to, and support for, an immersive and successful college experience while completing rigorous high school coursework and preparing for careers.

The Associate Dean (AD) at TCS@ODU works collaboratively with the building Deans on all aspects of the school’s mission and vision. They support the day-to-day effective operations of the school as well as prepare for the sustainability of the school, its mission and vision.
Vision & School Goals
Collaborates with other Deans and EL School Designer to develop multi-year work plan goals and align/designs resources, professional learning, and progress monitoring to achieve those goals
Collaborates with external partnerships that enhance our school’s mission and vision (MCNC, EL, ESCCO).
Serves as a member of the school’s leadership team.
Pursues professional learning opportunities to continue to grow and develop as a teacher, coach, facilitator of adult learning, and leader. The course of study should lead to a Principal’s licensure in the state of Ohio.
Administrative
Oversees a positive and supportive school culture that emphasizes engaged learning for all students.
Co-Leads a staff committee (e.g., Freshmen Success Team, Culture Team, or Leadership Team) and runs a Staff Crew. Plans and implements PD with the Deans and the Instructional Coach.
Collaborates to support the implementation of multi-tiered systems of support strategies including Tier 1, 2 & 3. Evaluates behavior, attendance, and academic data to design tiered interventions.
Helps plan, implement, and monitor Open House Night, Student-led Conferences, Family Conferences, Awards Ceremony, Graduation Ceremony, Enrollment Information Sessions and all other community-engagement events.
Maintains strong, supportive communication with families.
Supports family Crew and Family engagement initiatives.
Co-leads the hiring process in collaboration with the other Deans.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and Executive Team.
Participates in the development of the master schedule, academic calendar and daily schedule (subbing and duties).
Develops and sends a weekly email with schedule for the upcoming week to various stakeholders.
Supports compliance measures from outside entities as required.
Curriculum, Instruction, Professional Development
Designs and leads professional development surrounding classroom culture, academics, classroom management, Crew, etc.
Supports Crew curriculum development and provides oversight to Crew teachers during implementation of curriculum.
Develops the capacity of teachers to implement high quality, research-based teaching strategies.
Helps design academic class schedules in collaboration with the other Deans to prioritize core values and practices (ex: Crew, co-planning for teachers, times for academic and behavioral intervention, etc).
Works with instructional coach to improve teacher practices leading to better student outcomes.
Coaches teachers to improve instruction and assessment.
Provides instructional and curriculum plan feedback.
Communicates with families around curriculum and instructional practices.
Classroom Engagement and Student Behavior Supports
Provides support with Tier II and Tier III behaviors, both proactively and reactively
Develops, implements, and evaluates PBIS initiatives
Designs and evaluates discipline procedures, such as suspensions, expulsions, and restorative practices.
Provides coaching on classroom engagement and relationship building with teachers.
Supports lunch, before and after school duties.
Supports arrival of students to smoothly transition to morning classes.
Supports dismissal of students to smoothly transition to bus/car/walking.
Attends to and is a visible presence in hallways.
Performs regular walkthroughs of classrooms for normalizing behavior.
Collaborates on major behavior incidents, especially those necessitating an administrator of a specific gender (for example, in the case of gender harassment). Determines consequences for students choices, communicates and distributes legal paperwork for change of placement or removal from the educational environment.
Student Centered Assessment & Progress Monitoring
Collects, analyzes, and disaggregates data along with other administrators and teachers to develop interventions, re-teaching strategies, and instructional practices in order to raise advanced academic achievement scores and support behaviors.
Supports NWEA MAP testing, state, district, and other assessments.
Supports teachers in interim and quarterly report card completion with an emphasis on quality, student-centered comments and fair and consistent standards-based grading practices.
Works collaboratively with the other Deans to develop and monitor School Work Plan.
Qualifications
Active teaching license, valid in the state of Ohio
Principal license preferred
Masters degree in education field preferred
