Join our compassionate team as a Funeral Director Assistant, where your dedication will help families navigate one of life's most challenging moments with dignity and care. In this vital role, you will work alongside the full-time staff, working visitations and funeral services ensuring every detail is handled with professionalism and empathy. This position is part-time and on an on-call basis, meaning you will be contacted when we have a service, such as a visitaion or funeral.
Responsibilities
Guest & Family Support:
- Open doors and warmly greet guests, family members, and attendees arriving for visitations, services, and receptions.
- Offer guidance and direction to visitors regarding service locations, restrooms, parking, and facility amenities.
- Assist families with coat check, floral arrangements, guest sign-in books, and special requests.
Service Preparation & Setup:
- Assist full-time staff with prepping chapel spaces, viewing rooms, and visitation areas prior to public arrivals.
- Position floral arrangements, photo displays, memory boards, and audiovisual equipment as requested by families.
- Ensure all public areas are fully stocked, clean, and presented in a pristine, dignified manner.
- Support the Funeral Director during visitations, funerals, memorial services, and graveside committals.
- Direct traffic and parking flow as needed during high-volume services.
- Hand out memorial folders, prayer cards, and service programs to attendees.
Support & Coordination:
- Assist with post-service cleanup, returning furniture, floral stands, and equipment to their designated locations.
- Ensure chapel and common areas are tidy, sanitized, and reset for upcoming events.
- Complete light housekeeping duties around guest areas as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in customer service, hospitality, or event support is preferred but not required.
- Professional Demeanor: Exceptional empathy, patience, tact, and discretion when interacting with grieving families and visitors.
- Appearance: Excellent personal grooming and ability to adhere to a formal business attire dress code.
- Communication Skills: Clear, gentle verbal communication and strong listening skills.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, climb stairs, and lift or carry up to 30 lbs (e.g., flower arrangements, easels, chairs).
- Availability: Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on scheduled services.
Pay: From $16.00 per hour
