Over Drew Charter School’s twenty-year history, the school has grown to serve grades PreK-12 with nearly 1,900 students in a “cradle-to-college” pipeline, including two onsite early learning partners. Drew implements a rigorous and supportive educational continuum, which includes tailored Response to Intervention (RTI) support, a rigorous STEAM/Project-Based Learning (PBL) instructional model, and a robust College and Career Readiness program. Position Description

The Chief of Staff at Drew Charter School works closely with the Head of School and Board of Directors to guide the school's strategic direction. This role supports the Head of School in managing relationships with the Board, external stakeholders, and school leadership. The Chief of Staff leads strategic projects, implementation of the school’s strategic plan, school-wide communications, provides high-level administrative support, manages governance issues, oversees the school’s culture and equity strategy, the school's leadership and service program, and leads in achieving the school’s mission through multiple departments. This position is crucial in coordinating executive-level activities and ensuring smooth operations across the organization. This role is a critical partner with the Head of School and serves as a trusted advisor on sensitive, confidential, high priority and time-sensitive matters.

Performance Responsibilities

Board of Directors Support & Engagement 15%

  • Support the Head of School in board management and engagement by building relationships with members and developing an understanding of board dynamics
  • Provide oversight to the Executive Assistant for the administration of the board including all required Board communications and job duties..
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the Office of Charter and Partner Schools with regard to the Board of Directors
  • Collaborate with the Director of Communications on pre-and post-board communication to stakeholders
  • Manage the electronic board management system
  • Facilitate smooth operation of board and committee meetings including in-person and virtual formats
  • Provide oversight for maintenance of annual board/board meeting administrative responsibilies
  • Lead the planning and facilitation of board trainings including the annual board retreat, new member orientation, and other trainings
  • Ensure all board training requirements are met


Strategy Development & Implementation 35%

  • Lead organization-wide strategic planning
  • Lead implementation of the strategic plan and drive achievement of annual and intended impact goals
  • Partner with strategic plan priority leads to develop annual work plans
  • Partner with Chief Financial Officer to facilitate an annual planning process to ensure resources are allocated to execute initiative action plans
  • Collaborate with the Managing Director of Data and Analytics to prepare updates to key stakeholders
  • Ensure effective implementation of the annual giving campaign and collective fundraising for student activity fees (Drew CARES)


Departmental Leadership 40%

  • Collaborate with other C-suite leaders to resolve conflicts and coordinate cross-departmental initiatives, programs and processes
  • Lead the Strategy Team to ensure strategic alignment of all initiatives
  • Support processes for leveraging data to support the achievement of the school’s strategic plan
  • Support foster a culture of inclusion, enhancing student and family belonging, and increasing equitable access
  • Support student engagement initiatives, special education compliance, and student discipline, including restorative practices
  • Support the implementation of the school’s annual giving campaign and long-term development plan
  • Support and provide communications counsel to school leaders, and ensure communications strategies are aligned


Administrative Functions 10%

  • Manage the charter renewal process
  • Support the Head of School in managing and engaging external stakeholders in East Lake and throughout Atlanta
  • Manage relationships with district and state offices regarding adherence to process and deadlines
  • Support and advise the Executive Administrative Assistant in responding to Open Records Requests
  • Work with staff to identify program opportunities in coordinating and managing all aspects of the Tom Cousins and Billy Payne Leadership and Service Program

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Business, Education, Communications or related area required (Master’s in Business Administration preferred)
  • Previous Work-Related Experience: 10 years required
