Summary

The hiring salary for this position is $60,060.20.

Charles County Government is seeking a dynamic Senior Center Coordinator to perform aging services work in managing the operations of a senior center. This position will plan, implement, and coordinate activities and special events for older residents of the County. Coordinator will be responsible for program budget, facility, purchasing and supervision of assigned personnel and volunteers.

Essential Job Functions

  • Plans, implements, coordinates, and evaluates activities and special events at a senior center.
  • Prepares a variety of promotional items including calendars, newsletters, flyers, articles, bulletin boards, etc.
  • Develops and implements outreach and marketing plan.
  • Coordinates registration, prepares program and participant statistical reports and ensures that donations and fees are documented.
  • Oversees, trainings and schedules volunteers.
  • Serves as staff advisor to the senior center’s participant council and serves on boards and committees as assigned.
  • Ensures food service is operated with proper regard for sanitation, safety, and coordinates food service as appropriate. Reviews and oversees the proper documentation for ordered and delivered meals, provides complaints or positive remarks to nutritionist.
  • Purchases supplies, maintains inventory, and operates within budgetary constraints; responsible for center administrative functions including records maintenance and reporting.
  • Develops new classes, arrange for instructors, compile information regarding: cost, time, number of students, equipment needed, room availability and instructor’s payment options.
  • Coordinates community use of facility with other organizations and agencies and coordinates facility issues.
  • Ensures the safe operation of program and opens and secures facility.
  • Assists with the monthly publication SCOOP as needed.
  • Attends meeting with staff, supervisors, and senior Council.
  • Handles daily cash intake, prepares deposits, and maintains proper documentation according to policies
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education and Experience:

Associate degree in recreation/human services or related field. Three (3) years of experience in recreation aging/special populations; or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.

Licenses or Certifications:

Must possess a valid driver's license
CPR Certification or completion within 6 months of employment

Special Requirements/Qualifications:

Work is subject to frequent interruptions.
Subject to Criminal Background check.

  • Knowledge of effective methods and techniques of senior center management.
  • Knowledge of effective methods and techniques of developing programs, activities, and special events for older persons.
  • Knowledge of effective methods of outreach and promotion to the community.
  • Knowledge of effective methods of supervision.
  • Knowledge of PC operations.
  • Ability to plan, implement and coordinate activities of a senior center.
  • Ability to perform administrative functions including program budget, purchasing, facility management and personnel.
  • Ability to train and supervise others in the work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others encountered in the work.
  • Ability to initiate own daily assignments, follows through on matters, and uses independent judgment and training to take appropriate actions to deal with standard recurring situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is mostly sedentary with frequent periods of walking and standing. Typical positions require workers to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; climb stairs; bend and crouch; reach, hold, grasp, and turn objects; and use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards; and the ability to speak normally, to use normal or aided vision and hearing.

Principal duties of this job are performed in a general office environment.

  • Most work weeks are 37.5 hrs, and some positions may offer the opportunity for flexible work schedules or allow telework.
