POSITION SUMMARY
Supports and facilitates the educational process within the Charleroi Area School District by providing a safe and secure environment through enforcement of state laws, preservation of public order, protection of life, and the prevention, detection, and investigation of crime. This position reports to the Director of Safety and Security.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
● Serves as a visible and active presence on campus, addressing law-related concerns such as drugs, traffic, trespassing, fighting, and theft.
● Conducts routine patrols of assigned facilities, including buildings, parking lots, and District-owned, leased, or rented equipment; operates system equipment, including alarm systems, surveillance equipment, and patrol units as needed.
● Counselsindividual students on law-related matters affecting their ability to function effectively in the educational environment.
● Conducts mini-courses or workshops on drugs, law, law enforcement, safety, good citizenship, and related topics for students and parents.
● Coordinates security for crowd and vehicle control at extracurricular activities and special events.
● Assists other law enforcement agencies with incidents involving local criminal activity that may impact student or site safety.
● Maintains paperwork related to security activities, including reports, activity logs, and time sheets.
Specific job duties include, but are not limited to:
● Maintaining a consistent, visible presence within the building; walking through buildings rather than remaining stationary.
● Requesting and checking hall passes; monitoring the cafeteria and common areas.
● Answering radio calls when summoned and responding promptly to incidents.
● Writing citations as needed and participating as a member of the Building Safety Committee.
● Locking side doors and securing building entry points.
● Directing traffic during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.
● Checking the parking lot during lunch periods.
● Conducting camera/video investigations as needed.
● Assisting with scheduling and supervision of events and athletic games.
● Working cooperatively with probation officers regarding students under supervision.
● Confirming the addresses of students in question when required.
● Transporting suspended students’ home when no other ride is available, and transporting students for drug testing or between buildings as directed.
● Assisting with cafeteria fines, fire drills, and implementation of the building crisis plan.
● Assisting the building greeter with attendance and paperwork duties as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
● High School Diploma or GED.
● At least 21 years of age.
● Prior law enforcement experience preferred.
● Must be medically fit and able to pass a physical agility test.
● Able to perform all essential functions of a police officer.
● Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
● Must qualify yearly with department firearms.
● Basic computer skills required.
● Must reside in the vicinity of Charleroi.
● Must pass all required background checks.
● Valid Pennsylvania driver's license and any other licenses required by federal, state, and local regulations.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Hourly Rate
$21.00/hour
Annualized Salary
$30,408 (181 work days, 8 hrs/day) Extra pay for after-school event coverage if interested
