Responsibilities
- Respond rapidly to emergency calls, providing immediate care and stabilization for patients experiencing medical crises or trauma
- Perform thorough patient assessments, including vital signs measurement, physical examinations, and detailed patient histories
- Administer basic life support interventions such as airway management, oxygen therapy, bleeding control, and medication administration within scope of practice
- Utilize advanced physiology knowledge and medical terminology to accurately document patient conditions and treatments
- Operate emergency vehicles safely while adhering to traffic laws; perform heavy lifting and physical tasks required for patient extrication and transport
- Conduct triage at the scene to prioritize care based on injury severity and medical needs, especially in Level I Trauma Center environments or critical care transports
- Maintain aseptic techniques during procedures like venipuncture, injections, or other invasive interventions; ensure proper DME (Durable Medical Equipment) use and infection control protocols are followed
- Collaborate effectively with hospital staff during patient handoffs, providing detailed reports on patient status and treatments administered during transport
Skills
- Proven EMT experience with a strong foundation in emergency medicine principles and procedures
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology essential for accurate patient assessment and documentation
- Strong understanding of vital signs monitoring, vital sign interpretation, and physiological responses during emergencies
- Excellent driving skills with a clean record; capable of operating emergency vehicles under stressful conditions while ensuring safety for patients and crew
- Physical strength for heavy lifting, moving patients, and performing physically demanding tasks in various environments
- Experience with urgent care procedures and familiarity with hospital-based emergency room operations enhances responsiveness in diverse scenarios
