Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic, student-centered High School Science Teacher to teach 11th grade and 12th grade science. The teacher would use OpenSciEd to teach a mixed schedule of Chemistry and Physics.
The ideal candidate is someone who:
-Has a passion for teaching science
-Working with urban youth
-Enjoys building relationships with students, families, and other staff members
This position is ideal for an educator who loves science and working with urban students.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Delivery:
-Teach high school-level Physics or Chemistry using OpenSciEd-aligned curriculum and instructional strategies.
-Facilitate student-driven investigations, model-based reasoning, and scientific discourse.
-Lessons are culturally competent, honoring students' background knowledge and meeting students where they are at.
Planning & Preparation:
-Develop lesson plans based on OpenSciEd units that meet student needs and challenge students.
-Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
Classroom Environment:
-Create a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment.
-Promote inquiry-based learning and student collaboration.
Professional Development:
-Participate in OpenSciEd training
-Participate in instructional coaching and mentoring
-Collaborate with colleagues in professional learning communities (PLCs) to analyze student data and refine instruction.
-Be a reflective practitioner.
Technology Integration: Utilize digital tools and platforms that support OpenSciEd pedagogy (e.g., simulations, data analysis tools, Canvas etc.).
Qualifications:
Required: Bachelor’s degree in General Science, Physics, Chemistry, Science Education, or a related field. Valid state teaching certification in science. Familiarity with NGSS and three-dimensional learning.
Preferred:
Experience with OpenSciEd curriculum or similar phenomena-based high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) (e.g., IQWST, Amplify Science). Master’s degree in Education, science discipline, or other subject area. Demonstrated ability to foster student engagement and critical thinking in science.

Compensation and Benefits:
