Position Description

CNC Technician

Job Summary:

Requires a broad knowledge of machining techniques and familiarity with computer numerically controlled machine tool operating procedures. In depth understanding of program formats involving combinations of operations such as profile and contour milling, boring, recessing, turning, drilling, threading, etc., to the capacity of the machine and control factor. Perform advanced work-center center setup operation. Install appropriate workholding, check out and adjust programming and operate numerically controlled machine tools to perform a complex series of progressive machining operations on a diversified line of work to close and exacting tolerances and finish specifications requiring a high degree of skill. May set up machines for and instruct other operators. Check parts for conformance to specifications. Operators may run more than one unit simultaneously.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepare CNC machines by installing tooling, fixtures, and collets, and perform first-part runoffs to verify accuracy.

• Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, or other machinery to produce precision components, change and adjust machine work holding, verify tool changes, re-sharpening, etc.

• Perform preventive maintenance, lubricate moving parts, replace worn tools, and fix mechanical or electrical issues.

• Diagnose machine errors, unusual vibrations, or software glitches to minimize downtime.

• Edit or fine-tune G-code programs and machine parameters to optimize speed, feed rates, and cut accuracy.

• Prepares the first piece inspection in accordance with company policy and works with quality department for production approval.

• Makes minor &/or major adjustments to machinery to ensure that it is operating accurately, safely and efficiently, while production stays within established quality parameters.

• Interpret and understand programs on mills and lathes by entering data (including zero and reference points), setting tool registers, offsets, compensation and conditional switches, calculating requirements (basic math, geometry and trigonometry), and proving part programs.

• Follows drawings, engineering prints and instructions effectively.

• Supports continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities and needs.

• Carryout functions of a machine operator when need arises; encompasses but does not limit the duties and responsibilities listed on the CNC Machine Operator job description.

• To monitor, carry out and abide by company policies.

Experience:

· Previous experience as a level 1-3 Machine Operator in a manufacturing setting

Candidate(s) should be a reliable and responsible individual, able to work independently and well with others. Must have excellent attendance record! Heavy lifting and standing is required.
