Center Director – Job DescriptionJob Summary
The Center Director is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and overall quality of education and programming for all children in the center’s care. This leadership role oversees daily operations in alignment with established organizational guidelines and state regulations, including curriculum implementation, staff management, facilities oversight, and budget administration.
The Center Director upholds the values and reputation of Chappell Schools by fostering strong relationships with staff, families, and the local community while ensuring that the needs of children and the goals of the center are consistently met.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperations & Program Management
- Oversee the daily operation of the preschool, ensuring compliance with state, local, and organizational standards.
- Implement and maintain curriculum and policies that align with state guidelines and Chappell expectations.
- Ensure the facility is clean, safe, organized, and well-maintained at all times.
- Oversee meal preparation processes and ensure compliance with health and nutrition guidelines.
- Maintain children’s files, staff files, and food program documentation in accordance with state and company requirements.
Staff Leadership & Development
- Manage and support all center staff in collaboration with the CEO.
- Interview, hire, and train new staff, ensuring all background checks and required coursework are completed prior to start date.
- Schedule and maintain required certifications, including CPR and First Aid.
- Provide ongoing professional development and training opportunities for teachers.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team environment.
Financial & Administrative Management
- Manage center expense budgets responsibly and within organizational expectations.
- Maintain a labor margin of 50% or less and actively monitor and limit unnecessary overtime.
- Complete daily labor spreadsheets and teacher/child count updates in the TEAMS application.
- Work with the accounting department to ensure accurate billing, enrollments, withdrawals, and vacation requests.
- Support the center’s marketing plan by conducting tours, following up with inquiries, and contributing to enrollment growth.
- Utilize IntelliKid to review, input, and update all lead activity twice daily (morning and afternoon).
Family & Community Engagement
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with families through regular communication and meetings.
- Provide updates on children’s development and collaborate with families and teachers on behavioral or learning support plans.
- Promote the values and services of the center within the surrounding community.
Role QualificationsRequired
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of three (3) years of leadership experience in a licensed childcare setting
- Current Florida Director’s Credential (VPK endorsed)
- National CDA
- Completion of Florida’s 45-hour DCF training
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
Preferred
- Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
- Bachelor’s degree in education, child development, or related discipline
