Residential Construction Technician | Installation & Field Support

$23.00–$28.00/hour | Full-Time | Year-Round | Monday–Friday

Are you the person everyone grabs when something needs to be installed, fixed, built, figured out—or just plain handled?

You might be exactly who we’re looking for.

Chapman Windows, Doors & Siding is looking for a versatile, experienced Residential Construction Technician with a solid background in carpentry, residential construction and/or exterior remodeling to join our team in West Chester, PA.

This is a little different from your typical construction job.

You’ll spend much of your time working alongside our window and door installation crews, but we also need someone with the carpentry skills, tool knowledge and construction experience to jump in wherever an extra set of capable hands will make a difference.

One day you might be installing windows and doors. Another day you could be assisting a Service Technician with a repair, installing a screen door, rebuilding screens in our shop, prepping or painting trim, helping with materials in the warehouse, or making a supply run for a crew.

If you like variety, know your way around tools and residential construction, and would rather be useful in ten different ways than do the exact same thing every day, keep reading.

What You’ll Do

This role will primarily support our Installation department, while also providing hands-on support throughout our Production operation as needed.

Your work may include:

  • Working as a contributing member of a residential window and door installation crew
  • Assisting with window and door removal, installation, trim and finish work
  • Measuring, cutting, trimming and caulking
  • Installing storm doors and screen doors
  • Rebuilding, repairing and rescreening window and door screens
  • Assisting our Service Technicians with window and door repairs and troubleshooting
  • Removing, installing and adjusting window and door hardware
  • Using common hand tools and power tools safely and confidently
  • Prepping, painting and finishing trim and other materials in our shop
  • Identifying common building materials, trim, hardware, fasteners and tools
  • Picking up materials and supplies from local vendors when needed
  • Helping receive, organize and move construction materials
  • Supporting warehouse and shop projects as needed
  • Working safely on ladders and in customers’ homes
  • Keeping jobsites, vehicles, shop areas and workspaces clean and organized
  • Jumping in on other hands-on projects when an extra capable person is needed

The exact mix of work can change based on what our crews and customers need. Being adaptable is part of the job.

Who We’re Looking For

This is not an entry-level helper or trainee position.

We don’t expect you to walk in knowing every Chapman process or every product we install. We do expect you to arrive with a solid hands-on foundation and be able to contribute from the start.

You should be comfortable with:

  • Carpentry and residential construction
  • Residential remodeling and/or exterior remodeling work
  • Accurately reading a tape measure
  • Identifying and safely using common hand tools and power tools
  • Basic-to-intermediate carpentry, cutting, trim and finish work
  • Identifying common building materials, hardware and fasteners
  • Following instructions and working independently when appropriate
  • Looking at a problem and thinking through what might be causing it
  • Switching between different types of work and priorities
  • Working both in customers’ homes and in a shop/warehouse environment
  • Lifting, carrying, climbing ladders and performing physical construction work
  • Showing up reliably and being ready to contribute

Experience with window and door installation, exterior remodeling, trim/finish carpentry or similar skilled residential work is especially relevant.

You don’t need to be a career window installer, but you do need strong tool knowledge, measuring skills, construction know-how and the ability to contribute on a jobsite without being trained from the ground up.

The Right Personality Matters Here

This job is best suited to someone who genuinely likes being the go-to utility player on a team.

You don’t need every day to look exactly like the day before.

You don’t mind helping another department when they need you.

You don’t consider a job beneath you just because it isn’t the most technical thing you’ve ever done.

And you take just as much pride in doing a small task correctly as you do in completing a larger installation.

We want someone who can hear:

“Hey, can you give us a hand with this?”

…and respond with:

“Yep. What do you need?”

That’s the person we’re looking for.

Pay

$23.00–$28.00 per hour, based on demonstrated experience and skill level.

The range is intentionally broad because this role can benefit from different combinations of relevant skills.

Someone bringing stronger window and door installation, carpentry, exterior remodeling, service, repair or troubleshooting experience may qualify toward the higher end of the range.

We hire and pay based on what you can actually do—not just how many years you’ve been doing it.

Schedule

  • Full-time, year-round employment
  • Monday–Friday
  • Typical schedule approximately 7:00 AM–3:00 PM
  • Some days may run later depending on the work being completed
  • No regular weekend schedule
  • No seasonal shutdown

For the right person, this is an opportunity to build a long-term home with a strong team while using a broad, useful skill set instead of being boxed into one repetitive task.

If you’re experienced with carpentry, residential construction, exterior remodeling, window and door installation, tools and hands-on problem-solving—and you’re the kind of person who likes being useful wherever you’re needed—we’d like to hear from you.
