JOB SUMMARY
Chapman Construction/Design is always looking for student interns/co-ops to join our team! You'll be working with a dynamic group of industry-leading construction professionals on a diverse portfolio of commercial construction projects in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
In this internship/co-op role you will support our construction site supervisors with day-to-day jobsite operations. This position is ideal for students pursuing careers in construction management or related fields. You will learn essential construction methods and practices while contributing to the efficiency, cleanliness and safety of our job sites. This role is a great opportunity to build your skills and network, potentially leading to a full-time position upon graduation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Support construction supervisors with daily and weekly tasks, including preparing daily reports and conducting safety walks
- Provide technical assistance on projects by interpreting drawings and submittals.
- Understand the project schedule and identify the critical path
- Contribute to the short-term planning process
- Participate in project tasks such as attending meetings, performing inspections and verifying materials
- Engage in hands-on labor tasks, which may include using tools and equipment under the supervision of experienced personnel
- Maintain a clean and organized job site to ensure safety and job site efficiency
- Develop problem-solving skills to help keep jobs on schedule and maintain project flow
- Understand best practices for maintaining client satisfaction, including transparent communication and subcontractor accountability
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to prioritize and multitask effectively
- Display solid work ethic and enthusiasm
- Communicate effectively and respect others on the project team
- Possess good safety awareness
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Field-based role with regular activity on active construction sites
- Frequent standing, walking, and use of tools/equipment; occasional climbing, kneeling, sitting, or crouching
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
- Vision requirements include close and distance vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment
- Work may involve outdoor conditions, construction noise, dust, and other typical site exposures (protective equipment provided)
- Occasional assistance with site cleanup, deliveries, or light demolition
- Travel to project sites (up to ~60 miles each way)
