JOB SUMMARY:

As a Business Development professional, you will drive strategic, deliberate growth by cultivating a high-quality, balanced client portfolio that aligns with Chapman’s business model. Rather than pursuing sheer sales volume, this role focuses on securing high-value opportunities and maintaining a robust pipeline of right-fit projects in the MA & NH markets. This person will direct a highly selective pipeline strategy while fostering a proactive, company-wide culture of business development.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Business development & strategy

  • Identify project opportunities within target market sectors to build a strong pipeline
  • Develop and execute sector-specific BD plans with defined targets and performance metrics.
  • Monitor MA and NH market trends to proactively position Chapman for upcoming pursuits.
  • Participate in go/no-go pursuit evaluations, assessing alignment with company strategy, capacity, risk tolerance, and profitability goals.

Client relations & CRM

  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with key industry decision-makers.
  • Establish a structured new client outreach and existing client retention programs aligned with company goals.
  • Lead CRM development and optimization within Quickbase to enhance tracking, analysis, reporting and client outreach.

Internal collaboration & leadership

  • Partner with leadership to align BD activities with operational capacity.
  • Partner with the marketing team with strategic input on RFP responses, presentations and collateral.
  • Train and engage staff in BD efforts, lead market sector BD meetings and drive accountability.

Industry presence & events

  • Identify, secure and attend strategic industry conferences and events.
  • Actively participate in industry associations and networking groups.
  • Manage the industry event calendar; prepare and mentor staff to attend and represent Chapman.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • 8 years of experience in business development, preferably within the A/E/C industry
  • A natural relationship-builder with an established, active network of industry decision-makers in the region.
  • Demonstrated success in building relationships and securing project opportunities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with different teams, mentor technical staff and drive accountability.
  • Experience with CRM software
  • Ability to provide insight using data and metrics.
  • Positive working attitude and strong work ethic
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent direct career experience).
  • Understanding of the construction life-cycle and project delivery process
  • Knowledge of Chapman’s core market sectors: Corporate, Education, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Life Science and Non-Profits
  • Familiarity with sustainable building practices, Passive House or LEED certification standards.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Travel throughout Massachusetts and New Hampshire to attend client meetings, site visits and industry events.
  • Maintain a balance of office-based work and field/industry presence
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • Driving or riding in vehicles for extended periods of time is occasionally required

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

  • Estimated Base Salary Range: $125,000 – $175,000. Actual compensation will be based on the candidate’s experience, skills, responsibilities and market conditions. This range reflects base salary only, not the total compensation package.
