Summary Of Position
The purpose of this position is to oversee and perform the installation, maintenance, and fabrication of traffic signs and pavement markings along Town-maintained roads. Responsibilities include procuring materials, maintaining equipment and records, submitting utility location requests, responding to traffic-related service calls, and supporting contractors and other Town departments as needed. This position reports to the Traffic Operations Coordinator.
In the event of a natural disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
This positions are designated safety sensitive and driving- essential. NOTE: THIS POSITION MAY CLOSE WITHOUT NOTICE.

Essential Functions
What you can expect to be doing (Essential Functions):
- Fabricate, design, repair, and install traffic signs and assemblies; apply pavement markings using latex paint and/or thermoplastic materials.
- Knowledge of installing signs and pavement markings in accordance with the Town’s sign ordinances and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) standards.
- Set up and lead MUTCD-compliant, temporary work zones.
- Maintain latex printers, cutters, various hand tools, and other related equipment (roller brushers hand torch).
- Provides the Traffic Operations Coordinator with information and data related to the installation of traffic control devices signs and pavement markings along Town-maintained roadways.
- Respond to various emails, phones calls, and resident inquiries about signs and markings related issues.
- Coordinates and oversees weekly staff schedules for maintenance and installation of traffic control devices, signs, pavement markings.
- Provide assistance to the signal team to install rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFB) for mid crosswalks, as needed.
- Maintains records and supplies; research material costs; obtains price quotes; coordinates deliveries of materials; creates work orders and assigning tasks; maintains and edits daily log of field activities; responds to emails and phone calls.
- Manage inventory, obtain quotes for supplies/materials, manage material deliveries, create work orders, and quality review maintenance logs.
- Plans and conducts training for lower-level technicians on shop equipment and safety related items.
- Contributes to employee performance reviews and keep records of performance documentation.
- Schedules the Sign Shop team’s weekly work assignments
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

- Operating a bucket truck and various hand tools.
- Mathematics and measurements.
- Read and interpret maps and plans, and compile data.
- Apply mathematical concepts including fractions, percentages, and ratios.
- Use Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, or similar tools
- Prepare written reports, letters, and summaries with correct grammar and formatting.

- Paid Holidays: There are 12 official Town holidays. Employees in full or part time regular positions are eligible for paid holiday time.
- Personal Leave: All employees in full or part time regular positions are granted 3 days of personal leave per year. This leave is non-cumulative

- NC 401(k)-The Town makes a contribution of 5% to the 401(k) for all regular full and part time employees. There is no employee match required. Employees have the option of making contributions on a pre or post tax basis. The plan is administered by Empower.
- 457 Deferred Compensation Plan-Town of Chapel Hill employees have the option of making contributions to a 457. The Town does not make contributions to this plan. The plan is administered by MissionSquare.
- Town Provided: The Town provides both short term and long term disability insurance to all regular full or part time employees. The plan will pay up to 50% of the employee's base income up to $462 per week for non-job related injuries.
- Voluntary Short Term Disability: Employees have the option of purchasing supplemental disability insurance. This plan will pay employees a maximum of 25% of their base weekly earnings up to $400.
