The Role:

The Director of CareerAbility at Chapel Haven Schleifer Center, Inc. will provide strategic leadership and oversight for a comprehensive array of employment services and opportunities designed to support adults with disabilities in achieving meaningful, competitive employment outcomes. This position requires a forward-thinking leader who can identify opportunities, develop partnerships, and create pathways that empower Chapel Haven students and community members to build the skills, confidence, and experiences needed for successful employment.

Founded in 2017, CareerAbility continues to grow as an innovative model for employment services. The Director will play a key role in advancing the program’s vision, expanding community and employer partnerships, and developing initiatives that align with organizational goals and the evolving needs of the individuals served.

The Director will lead and develop a team of professionals committed to promoting meaningful employment opportunities throughout Chapel Haven and the greater New Haven community. This role will establish the culture, direction, and priorities of the department by fostering continuous improvement, innovation, collaboration, and data-informed decision-making while maintaining a strong commitment to Chapel Haven’s mission and philosophy.

The Director will oversee all aspects of CareerAbility’s operations, including strategic planning, program development, quality improvement, employer cultivation, outcome measurement, and the achievement of short- and long-term departmental goals.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of professionals assigned to CareerAbility.
  • Identify outcomes, develop plans, programs, and strategies to achieve goals (benchmarks) and improve placement outcomes for adults engaged in CareerAbility services.
  • Monitor program quality, budget, billing, and overall effectiveness. Perform after-action reviews to develop programs and services and build upon the strategic plan for the department and organization.
  • Oversee all aspects and processes of CareerAbility, ensuring quality programming and ongoing development.
  • As needed, work with a CareerAbility Advisory Board to seek guidance and suggestions, develop employer and community councils, and/or participate on relevant committees to develop best practices, innovations, and build community and industry relationships.
  • Foster teamwork and staff morale, including assessing staffing needs, supporting managers with conflict resolution, leading staff meetings, and ensuring effective departmental communication, operating procedures, and processes.
  • Perform project management, including quality assurance efforts related to CareerAbility’s strategic plan, outcome measures (benchmarks), the Chapel Haven Long Range Plan, and CARF accreditation. Analyze options and present recommendations to leadership, boards, and community stakeholders.
  • Attend client/family planning meetings as needed. Cultivate relationships with clients, donors, partners, and families
  • Create professional written documents, including reports, processes, and communications. This requires an organized, detail-oriented individual who can manage multiple priorities and demonstrate effective problem-solving, decision-making, verbal, computer, and written communication skills.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Rehabilitation Services, Education, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related field required. Advanced degree preferred. Minimum ten years of progressive leadership experience in employment services, vocational rehabilitation, workforce development, human services, education, or related nonprofit programs.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Experience working with individuals with developmental and social disabilities
  • Valid CT driver’s license
  • First Aid & CPR Certification
  • CPI Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification
  • Problem solving skills, patience, ability to work as a member of a team, organizational skills & leadership skills.
  • Ability to sit, stand and drive for periods of time.
